Q: iPhone 6s Plus touch screen not responding

My iPhone 6s Plus touch screen isn't responding.  I just received it today and everything was working fine until this.

What should I do?  I can't even turn of the phone.

iPhone 5s, iOS 7.0.4

    Hey radnad28,

Sorry to hear that the touchscreen on your iPhone 6s Plus is not working. To get it sorted out, you can try out the troubleshooting outlined below. There are only a few steps but if it continues, you will need to contact Apple Support for further assistance.

My wife's iPhone 6s Plus (64 GB) has had this same problem. Twice I've had to force-restart it as described in the troubleshooting link provided above. I'm just updating it to iOS 9.1 now just in case that happens to solve the problem. This does seem to be a glitch in the software, for at least some users.

Are you suggesting that we should contact Apple Support since we've had this happen twice now? It is obviously something we don't want to have to deal with frequently.

I purchased an Iphone 6s plus 20 days ago. About 2 days later I purchased it, the touchscreen stopped responding after I unlocked the phone. The phone freezed approximately 15-20 secs. I could not evet turn off the phone properly  and I had to force it to restart. I searched the issue on the internet and the case was experienced by other users as well. I even turn back to the factory settings and set my phone up as a new Iphone. However, I still confront the same issue at random times. Is this issue related with the OS or about the device?  I wanted to wait a while before returning my phone back hoping that it is fixed, but the problem is not fully recovered so I don't want to wait for too long to return it back, as the phone is new and can be replaced maybe if I attempt to return it back before it's too late.

As I mentioned in my earlier note, my wife's iPhone 6s Plus did have this problem a couple of times when it was new. It has not had the problem again, however, and it could be that updating the software to the latest iOS fixed the problem. It's since been updated to iOS 9.2 and we're not having any problems. I also have a new iPhone 6s Plus myself, and have not experienced this problem. I'm running 9.2 as well.

My suggestion is that you check to see which version of iOS your phone is running, and update it to see if it makes a difference.

I haven't had this problem on my iPhone 6s or another family members 6s Plus, but another family member of mine had a 5s and the touchscreen stopped working after updating to iOS 9, the only way we could fix this was by holding the power and home button together until the Apple logo appeared. The screen still worked, and we haven't this issue again since updating to iOS 9.2. I would suggest holding together the power and home buttons until you see the Apple logo.

The only fixes I see online are to use a force restart (Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support) and (If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch doesn't respond or won't turn on - Apple Support), also there are some recommendations here (If the screen on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch doesn't respond to touch - Apple Support).

Other than those suggestions, if the problem persists then you probably should go to the Apple store and have them look at it. If you don't have an Apple store nearby then it sounds like your phone is still under warranty, you can contact Apple support (https://www.apple.com/support/contact/).

One of the other threads also mentions the possibility that the screen could have a defect or be damaged. Hopefully that is not the case, but if it is then you'll probably have to get the phone repaired or replaced. Your phone is brand new so there should not be any difficulty in having it replaced if needed.

    Good luck.
