Nov 8, 2015 5:42 PM in response to Bobarianby dennis279,I've got the same setup and the same problem, down to the random spontaneous wake-ups. I tried connecting the ATV directly to the TV, and still couldn't get the on/off behavior to work consistently. Hopefully this is something Apple can fix in the next tvOS update...

Nov 11, 2015 9:06 AM in response to Bobarianby clintonbean,I have had similar problems. It actually worked fairly well connected straight to my TV, but it did nothing for my AV receiver.
Once I connected straight to my receiver (and HDMI from receiver to TV), everything turns on fine, but nothing happens when I put the ATV4 to sleep. If my remote also sent out an IR "off" command to my TV when I put the ATV4 to sleep, all would work as intended. That would be a great option.

Nov 11, 2015 10:21 AM in response to Bobarianby Bobarian,I have had more issues since I first posted. I have an Xbox One as one of the HDMI inputs. Whenever I switch the input to the Xbox the system automatically switches back to the Apple TV input. I put the Apple TV asleep and because the TV and the Receiver are on the Apple TV wakes up and switches the input back to Apple TV. It is very annoying. At this point I turned off the HDMI CEC functionality on the receiver and the TV. I programmed the Apple remote to learn how to control the volume of the receiver. I still need the receiver remote to turn on the receiver and the TV.

Nov 11, 2015 10:24 AM in response to Bobarianby RealisticExpectations,Yup!
I had to turn off HDMI-CEC on my whole expensive system simply because the addition of the Apple TV 4 mucked it up for everyone.
I'm sure they'll fix it someday. I just wish I only had to pay for a partial product rather than a finished one when I bought the new box.

Nov 11, 2015 11:16 AM in response to Bobarianby Gino_Cerullo,Good luck using HDMI CEC. It is a poorly implemented standard that sometimes works if you are using components from the same manufacturer but rarely if ever works when mixing components from different manufacturers. I recommend just turning it off.

Nov 13, 2015 8:22 AM in response to RealisticExpectationsby jonathanfromkensington,I had exact same issue with Denon and Samsung HDMI-CEC. Everything was fine w/ Gen 3 Apple TV, but Gen 4 does not play nice with the setup so I had to turn everything off.

Jan 29, 2016 7:54 PM in response to jonathanfromkensingtonby Peter Fal,I had HDMI harmony until I hooked up the ATV4!
Have an auto HDMI 3:1 hub/switch. Turn on Sony TV, it then automatically turns on the Telus TV box and Onkyo receiver. Turn on Sony BluRay, it switches to BluRay. Turn on PS3, switches to that device. Turn off the last device, it switches back to previous device that is on.
When ATV4 is put to sleep, it won't send a signal to tell the switch to give up its spot and switch back. Its as if in sleep mode there is still a trickle signal sent to the HDMI switch.
This is with CEC turned off! When switched on, ATV4 takes control of the Onkyo receiver and switches speakers! But that is another problem to sort.
Apple TV4 needs to be able to be turned OFF. With ATV asleep, if I unplug the ATV, power is completely off and sure enough the HDMI switch allows for other devices to take over. Sleep mode messes up HDMI harmony!!
