Dec 7, 2013 4:27 PM in response to Bob Timmonsby Klaatu1947,The Airport product line has always been the "red haired step child". They roll the product out and provide minimal support, and drop support for the legacy devices. The Airport Utility has been stripped of all of the features offered by traditional telecommunications companies. As long as you and I continue to purchase the Airport products Apple will continue to water down the support tools. The good news is that bother are lots of non-Apple solutions available.

May 10, 2014 5:35 PM in response to Tesseraxby Ecleptic,I just did all that but my Mac is currently telling me: "you can't use this version of the appication 'Airport Utility 5.6' with this version of OS X" and that "You have 'Airport Utility 5.6' 5.6." What did I miss?
-
May 10, 2014 5:41 PM in response to Eclepticby Bob Timmons,If you have Mavericks (10.9.x) on your Mac, Apple will not allow you to install AirPort Utility 5.6.
Use...or borrow for a few minutes...a Mac running Leopard , Snow Leopard or Lion (up to 10.7.2), or a PC if you need to administer an older AirPort model.

Jul 14, 2014 7:10 AM in response to Bob Timmonsby yambu1,Mavericks users: Thanks to Corey Mahler, there is a solution for getting AirPort Utility 5.6.1 to run on Mavericks, and it doesn't require uninstalling the new version (so you can keep using the new utility for newer Airports). Just google “corey mahler 5.6.1 mavericks” and you’ll find it. (I tried to post a link here, but it kept getting removed).
I've tried this with Mavericks 10.9.4 and it works. Once you've installed Airport utility 5.6.1 and the launcher app, you will need to run Airport 5.6.1 Launcher app, and that will get the utility running.

Nov 6, 2014 8:44 PM in response to Connie75by laner24,It worked, thanks Yambu1!! (and THANKS Corey Mahler!!)
I bought an older airport used for $20 and didn't realize that the current airport utility wouldn't work for me. I used Corey Mahler's solution and it worked like a charm. I was hesitant, but found articles on both macworld.com and macupdate.com so I figured it was safe to use. I even signed up to the discussion board just to post a positive review.

Jun 1, 2015 4:38 PM in response to Jowieby Terrence Tobin,Just found this discussion and used the method described. It works! Under Mavericks I was able to get an old Apple Express (802.11 b/g only) working again to extend the wireless coverage from an old Apple Extreme base station. As expected, the Express can not be configured to 'Extend wireless network'. It can only be configured as 'Participate in a WDS network', meaning it is limited to b/g speed of 2.4 GHz. However, since I'm currently still using an old Apple Extreme base station, I am limited to 2.4 GHz anyway. Thanks hugely to Yambu1 and Corey Mahler.

Nov 9, 2015 6:10 PM in response to dickybranby Dave Kitabjian,How did you get past "This version of Airport Utility doesn’t support this base station"? It appears to want to install on Lion, and none of my Macs have that available any more. Is there a way around this limitation? I have an Airport Express I can no longer configure. Thanks!!

Nov 9, 2015 6:20 PM in response to dickybranby Dave Kitabjian,What I get after Pacifist extraction is "You can’t use this version of the application “AirPort Utility 5.6.app” with this version of OS X."
