Q: Most (not all) photos not uploading from iPhone to iMac. IOS 9.0.2 and El Capitan OSX 10.11

Just returned home after a week away. I expected the  photos on my iPhone 5s (IOS 9.0.2) to upload to my iMac (El Capitan OSX10.11). Of 117 photos taken only 17 have uploaded. I have tried switching iMac, iPhone and Router off and on but no success. Any ideas please?

Are you using iCloud Photo Library or My Photo Stream to upload the photos?

Can you see the photos in Photos, if you connect the iPhone by USB?

Thank you for responding. I should first say I am not an experienced Mac user having only switched four years ago. Whereas iPhoto worked simply for me, (particularly being able to select which images to share in Photostream), I find Photos totally confusing and not user friendly.

In response to your question I'm not sure which I was using, iPhoto just worked and it was never previously necessary to know which element of the app I was using. I think I was probably using iCloud Photo Library to upload. I did connect my iPhone by USB and all my photos appeared, showing under the "Import" tab. I made the mistake of uploading them and 1000 photos have swamped My Photo Stream, irritatingly most of which are of no interest whatsoever, although the missing photos which prompted my initial post do now appear. Presumably it is now necessary to select the photos you wish to keep and actually delete the others - a massive task which was previously unnecessary. Also, having to connect by USB cable to get the transfer to work is a backward step.

I  think with the change to El Capitan/Photos Apple have left their dictum "it just works" far behind in favour of an architecture which seeks to push their users towards providing a cash stream by paying for iCloud storage.  Since Photos are important to me I think with this complicated change Apple may have left me behind also!

I have decided that I am not going to pursue this further, so thank you again.
