Q: Photos for Dummies!

Hi all,

I need some help.  I have a huge project I need to start and hoping someone will give me some coaching or advise as to where to start.  I have several photo albums with printed pics that I would like to scan into my computer and incorporate with the photos that have been taken by iPhone and digital cameras over many years.  The end result will be a collection of all my pictures that I can then put into a book layout.

I am confused about iPhoto and iCloud Photos and now PHOTOS....  It seems I have pictures everywhere and multiples.  My husband takes a pic of a can of beans at the grocery store and now I have that picture across all my devices and even though I delete it from my phone it reappears again from a sync from my computer's photos....  so I quit, shut down all picture sharing and now I want to start over and figure out all that I am doing wrong and make it right.

If any one has the time to help out, I would very much appreciate it.

Lorie

I am using El Captain on all my computers and iPhone 5s.

Could it be that you and your husband share the same appleID, and you are both using iCloud? It happened to me too when my wife took over our first iMac, configured it to her name, but did not delete all the references to my appleID.

Ya, that may be it...  I will watch, because that is one of the changes I made was to separate our apple id's not too long ago...  but, for another example.  Just last night I took a picture with my iPhone from within my home, and sent it to a friend and as soon as the iMessage transfer was complete I deleted the photo from my iPhone.  This morning that picture was in my Photos on my iMac.  Now, it is still gone from my phone, but I guess what I am expecting is that if I delete from one device it will also be deleted from the others.  Now, that photo has not yet appeared on my Macbook but the Macbook holds pics that I deleted from the iMac yesterday...  very frustrating!

I just want all devices to sync together.

I am using El Captain on all my computers and iPhone 5s.

I scanned in family photos - but I scanned them directly into Photoshop as many of them needed color correction, finger print removal, and other repairs.

Although I did copy them into IPHOTO - my main folders are outside of any Apple Product - even digital photographs - all in PSD format (photoshop) as I am still finding new ways to fix what I thought was unfixable.

About ICLOUD keep in mind Apple does not guarantee you won't lose it -- and recommends you keep another backup.

You should be able to get to Help articles at Apple from the applications - or here are some articles on PHOTOs that will get you into their help section.
