Nov 24, 2014 7:06 AM in response to norm123by Streusalz,Well, I did it like that but the "managed devices" is stubbornly showing the old name - even after removing and re-adding.
In my case I restored an old iPad on a new one and renamed the device. The info in the store seems to be the only place which has problems with that.
IOS 8.1.1, iTunes 12.0.1.26 on Mac with Yosemite 10.10.1

Feb 17, 2015 11:48 PM in response to Streusalzby UltraCloudClimber,I have this exact same issue with my iPhone. iTunes still lists my current iPhone 6 as "My iPhone 5," even though I removed my old iPhone 5 from my Support Profile last September. In iTunes, I've removed "My iPhone 5" from my sync list, and then re-authorized my current iPhone 6 from the phone to receive automatic music downloads, but then it still shows up as "My iPhone 5" in iTunes. Really bizarre. Not a huge issue as far as I can tell, but annoying. Everywhere else, such as iCloud and of course on my phone itself, it shows up correctly, but there seems to be a glitch unique to iTunes.

Nov 12, 2015 2:43 PM in response to norm123by AstroMacMan,The Apple support document seems to explain how to change the name on the device or in iTunes where the i-device is shown. It does NOT, though, explain how to change the name that appears in the Manage Devices screen.
Like others here, I have generic names in several cases rather than the given name!
