DesktopsIs the battery under it also four years old?
If the battery swells, the first thing it pushes against is the clicker adjustment screw.

Thank you for sending an answer. Alas my trackpad is the one integral to the Macbook Pro. I think it may be a little more complicated to actually access it. Once I can get to it your suggestions are likely right on.

The battery is the original. So the dimensions of the battery can change over time? Can the battery move slightly? Perhaps that is why this problem is intermittent? Like right now, after a day of flying the trackpad is working normally - I just can't count on it being the same tomorrow.
