Q: My iPhone 6s home button is really hot and the device won't turn on

i have had my phone since Friday, and this morning when I woke up the home button was burning hot and the screen is just black. I went to bed with it working just fine last night, plugged it in to charge, and now it won't work. Nothing else is hot, not even the charging port, just the home button is on fire. I have had the phone unplugged for an hour and the button is still on fire.  I had just made the choice to switch from a Samsung to this iPhone and need to say it makes me slightly regret my choice because I have always known that apple products have tons of issues. I an not happy that I have had this phone for less than 5 days and this is happening. Anyways, is there anything i can do to fix it without having to go into the apple storeI did not finish setting up my iCloud, so to lose all of information because of a defective phone will not make me happy.

This happend to my 6S+ today when I woke up. Luckily wife noticed my phone was off early morning so she put an alarm on her phone instead so I won't be late. I got the burning hot home button and unresponsive to any buttons or charging. So I held home + button for hard reset which resolved the issue. I have not updated to 9.1 yet.  I will do that when I get home tonight. Seems like everyone stopped commenting after 9.1 so it might just worked. Any else have issues on ios 9.1?

It's been a few weeks and I'm happy to report that it hasn't happened again.  This is on a new replacement phone running 9.1.

Based on new touch sensor issues surfacing with 9.1 it would most definitely appear that folks at Apple have been hard at work stabilizing the new sensor stack.  Those do seem less critical than the phone having a hard hang though.

To Apple crew: thank you for getting on top of these issues and working hard behind the scenes.  It's never nice to hit any problems, but it's great to know that you are there doing what needs to be done to respond to these when they surface.  Much appreciated!

I wanted to take a moment and pop in here after I received the notification to thank you for this post. We need more guys like you in the world.

As for my case– after a chat with Apple Support over the phone outlining this issue, I was advised to head to the Genius Bar. They replaced my phone on 10/29. I have not had any issues since.

so just wanted to update everyone. I only had the hot button issue once, a few weeks ago. I updated to software 9.1 and didn't have it happen again. Then I went on vacation 2 weeks ago, everything was fine... until it wasn't. I was using google maps as a gps and all of a sudden the phone died. Would not power back on at all. Tried reset (hold home and power button) and it would not turn back on. Went into the apple store and they had to factory restore (i lost over 1500 pictures that I had took on vacation because of this crap). Needless to say, I was totally ****** off that this happened, and seeing as this is the THIRD problem i've had with this phone, I didn't leave the store until they replaced it. I am on a new phone now, and so far, no BIG issues. I have noticed it runs a bit slower and seems to freeze up from time to time (like a stutter). *sigh* I thought iPhones were the best :-/

i have had the same problem. Had kept my phone on the table the night before and when i woke up the next morning it was switched off. The only way it turned on was by holding the power and home button for 10 seconds. I also experienced having a hot home button. I just got my hands on the new 6s a week back. What should I do? Do i take it back where I got it from and ask them to replace it for me.

Count me among the users who have experienced this 'bug'. Has anyone had any resolution?

Yes.  My phone hasn't experienced this again. Sadly I can't tell you what fix it because I happen to get a replacement at the same time as iOS 9.1 came out.  Please make sure you've updated your phone to the latest iOS version.  From the light amount of traffic on this thread I go think that 9.1 contained payload to alleviate this.

And if you are still experiencing the issue afterwards, call Apple to see if they can get you a replacement.

I am on holidays in Asia now. My brand new iPhone 6s Plus 128GB went black & the home button went very hot. After many retries it turned on again. I noticed the battery drained about 35%. It just happened & I will report back if it happens again.

This happened to my IPhone 6S today.  I did update last night to iOS 9.02.  The phone said 75% charged and suddenly started to get very hot.  Eventually it powered off and had to be recharged.  The phone never runs out of power normally until the end of the day if at all.  I restarted, charged it up and it appears to be working okay for now.

It happened to me for the first time today.  It was on my desk working... then it went dark.  The home button got very hot.  It went from 90% to 58% battery pretty quick.  Holding both buttons for a reset fixed it.  But I don't feel good about it.  I am going to take it to the Apple store.

Yesterday night, while inserting my Iphone 6s to the Lightning dock, I encountered the problem.

I noticed the home button was slowly getting hot and looked up for any remedy. The hard reset worked.

I upgraded to ios 9.2 and hopefully the problem will not return.
