Q: If I have a back-up copy on my external HD and I deleted it from my MAC. How can I restore that copy to a new phone?

iPhone & iPads back-ups take a lot of space on the MAC. If I remove the file from the MAC and copy it to an external HD; how do I restore it when I need to (i.e. on a new phone?)

Thank you in advance

iPhone 6 Plus, iOS 9.1

    I haven't done this but I would think put the backup file in the correct location then see if it appears in the list of backups.

    http://osxdaily.com/2009/09/11/iphone-backup-location/ - your iPhone files are backed up at the following location: in Mac OS X: ~(your home directory)/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/

    iTunes Menu Bar, Itunes > Preferences > Devices

    --> A list of backups.

    About backups in iCloud and iTunes - https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204136 - "You can copy and save the data on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch by backing up your device in iCloud or iTunes. If you replace your device, you can use its backup to transfer your information to a new device."
