Q: Workaround on Mac to Add iTunes Store Music To Apple Music?

Using iTunes on the Mac, I want to be able to add any music on the iTunes Store to my library.  Apple allows directly adding only music from the New or For You tabs, or from within Apple Music; you can’t search in the iTunes Store tab (https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204839).  I can do this in iOS, but it’s far easier to organize my music library on the Mac rather than an iPhone.

Has anyone found a “simple” method for doing this?  I devised a very cumbersome workaround (too complicated to describe), but I’m hoping some Apple Music pros have found an easier solution.

I find the new iTunes interface fairly confusing, so I hope my question is clear, and thanks.

MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10.5), 2.3 GHz intel Core i5

I would be interested in how you do this on your iPhone. As far as I am aware if you want to add music from the the iTunes store, you need to buy it! Apple music is separate from the iTunes store.

The iTunes Store library and the Apple Music Library are completely different and separate - meaning the iTunes Store library is much larger. Primarily because artists/labels either do not allow streaming (re: Apple Music) of either their entire catalogue or only a part of their catalogue.

So no - you cannot add everything from the iTunes Store without actually purchasing the music. Only what is available through Apple Music.

I haven’t been able to replicate this consistently; looking at swandy’s comment below, I wonder if I am unknowingly adding music that is actually part of Apple Music?

I will check to see if that’s what’s going on.

Thanks for this information; the ability to stream the music I'm adding must certainly be involved.

swandy, you’re correct.  On the iPhone, I was adding music from the “All Apple Music” tab in the Music app.  I was confused by the fact that when I switched to Mac iTunes, I could add it to existing playlists, play it offline etc.  The music will disappear, of course, if I unsubscribe from Apple Music.

swandy's answer is the solution -- marked the wrong one.  Sorry!
