Q: hdcp

Hi! I was watching Netflix from my Mac Air, recently upgraded to El Capitan. Suddenly it stopped playing with the error : make sure your screen it compatible with HDCP and not mirroring via airplay. Anyone know how to check or change the playback mode?

MacBook Air (13-inch Mid 2011), OS X El Capitan (10.11.1)

HDCP is a copy-protection mechanisms for higher-resolution digital content.  What's also called DRM or Digital Rights Management.  It's part of the display connection; the controller, the cable and the display being used.

How are you viewing the content from your MacBook Air?  What sort of monitor is in use if it's not the built-in LCD, what sort of cable?

Is AirPlay or screen sharing or remote desktop in use?

Did the content work after you upgraded to El Capitan, and then stop?

Have there been any video-related tools, or any anti-virus or anti-malware or performance-enhancing or optimizing or cache-cleaning or other similar add-on tools been added or upgraded or changed recently?

    Thank you for answering.

Netflix has been working every day after upgrading 3 days ago. Airplay is not in use, nor sharing or remote desktop. No other changes except the upgrading.

As a test, reboot and physically reconnect everything — reboot the computer, power-cycle the external monitor if you're using that, re-plug both ends of the external cable, etc.

When I reboot it works for 30 minutes and I get the same error again. No external connections ot plug-ins.

So this is all within the MacBook Air, and with no external monitors, and with no add-on video software, with no anti-virus, and with no anti-malware or related software installed on OS X?   Okay; donno.   Check with the NetFlix folks directly — they do have some support info posted, or contact them directly.

Yeah. Thanks. U checked with Netflix. The support info does not help me, so I will have a chat if the problem continues. Thanks for trying.
