Q: Ipad Pro shuts off while charging and requires a hard reset to turn on

Hello,

I got my iPad Wednesday, spent the evening getting it all setup.  Restored from back up, ensured everything was there, wiped my iPad air 2 (sold it), deleted it's back up and went on with my normal routine.

At night it was down to 40% so I charged it and went to bed.  When I woke up it was "dead".  It wouldn't wake up.  I needed to perform a hard reset to get it to come to life.  Worked on it for a couple of hours and had to run an errand.  Plugged it back in as I was going to need a full charge later that day.  Came back to it, same thing.  Dead.  I needed to perform a hard reset to get it to turn on.

Used it more, then last night plugged it in and this morning, same thing.  I am thinking that there is an issue with this iPad.

I am now restoring it, since that it what online support recommended I try.  Just wondering if anyone else has had this issue?

Thanks.

Same problem here.   First time it happened I thought nothing of it.   Just happened again, was thinking it was just mine, but looks like others have the same issue.

    Have a Gold 128gb.

I Got mine today, watched a movie with charger plugged in, went to get a drink, walked back to see a dead screen! Will not even boot up at all and apple "support " does not respond to my calls yet. Taking it in to Apple Store in morning, a 3 hour drive away.

Did you get any answer to your problem as i am facing a bigger issue where in it opens up the homescreen and shows 100% charge, the moment i take it off the wall socket it goes blank again. I tried resetting the ipad from the menu and now its askin me to connect to itunes, which I can't as the moment i take it off the power it dissapears.

Now i'm stuck with a dead device. Is there a way to know where the problems is so that I can try repairing it by myself?

JJust spoke to apple support, I had to do a hard restart by pressing both the home and power keys together while counting to 10. Seems to have fixed issue? However I will still be taking it back to Apple Store if happens again this weekend.

must be software as putting lightening plug in and out does not cause problem

seems to when long time on charge that switches off or when pull plug out

i have reset and wiped iPad and start again

next time will push home button before pulling out lightening plug to see if makes difference

It is not related to pulling lightening connector tried this multiple times

It is not related to battery indicator @ 100%

It seems unrelated to time on charger or charger itself

It seems to be related to app crashing when charging in sleep mode as

when I you factory reset no issues 'switching off/crash when charging'

I do not know which of my many apps is doing this in iOS and iPad pro certainly same apps run OK on iPad air-2 and iPod touch6th

Seems an expense iPad device if can not load any apps

    @christopher

Hey man, thanks for a swift reply.

I doubted the same and I did a reset on my ipad thinking its an app which is causing the crash. Now that I have reset it completely, it has the same issue wherein I can't plug it out and while in charging it switches off every 2 minutes.

So this is a hardware issue and not software ?

I did try to do this for a day. After that adventure of mine, I got the home screen back and I did a reset of the system as my WiFi was greyed out as well. So I thought it was an OS issue and could be fixed by resetting. And now it says to connect to iTunes which I can't because I can't plug it out of the wall socket.

I am still trying to reproduce 'crash while charging' after full wipe & reset but seems to be working fine

So your underlying cause maybe different from mine but have same symptom

I have had this issue twice. Wonder if fully draining the battery and recharging will help. I am reluctant to do a full wipe and reset just yet.

Same problem here. I am running same apps and iOS that worked fine on my iPad Air2. After reading thread, it appears that this is happening to all of us after a charge. I haven't tried full wipe and restore as no none yet has posted that this works. I noted that after a charge, I disconnect the charging cable, but wait a minute or two before starting, that sometimes the unit will restart. Seems to never start without reset if it still on charger.

    Hello All,

This is clearly a firmware issue that only Apple will be able to solve with an update.

Restoring the device or exchanging it does not seem to be the answer.

The key is to get Apple's attention on this matter. If you call support, ask for level 2. Point them to this thread. Keep the thread going until we get the firmware fix.
