Q: ios 9 wont update or backup on iphone 6s

I just purchased an iPhone 6s - I backed up my previous 5s, then connected my 6s.  I requeste it to restore from backup - but it stated I needed to update to ios 9.1.0 first.  So I clicked okay.  Now - it's stuck on the loop "slide to upgrade, enter passcode, progress bar moves 2 mm" and then repeats this.

How do I fix this?  Apple support couldn't figure out why.

TIA

iPhone 6s, iOS 9

    Hello czgiese,

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities!

I understand that while trying to update and restore your iPhone, your iPhone seems to have become stuck on Slide to Upgrade. I know this type of situation is very frustrating because this is a brand new iPhone and you want to use it, but we are here to help.

The first set of steps I would recommend are located in the following article. Please work through the steps as outlined in the If you already updated to iOS 9 section. Once your iPhone has been updated to iOS 9.1, connect to your computer again and then restore from the iPhone 5s backup.

    1. Connect your iOS device to a computer. Then make sure that iTunes is open.
    2. While your device is connected, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons until you see the Connect to iTunes screen.
    3. When asked, choose Update.
    4. When the restore is done, finish the onscreen steps to set up your device.
