Q: Time Machine no longer automatic under El Capitan

My symptoms are that the automatic backups just don't happen under El Capitan on either my iMac or my MacBook Pro.  Manual backups are successful.  The iMac backs up to an alternating pair of drives, one of which is via USB and the other via FireWire.  The MBP is backing up one the home network to a USB drive on my iMac.

I tried the SMC reset on my iMac which was recommended elsewhere in these forums.

After leaving the iMac powered off and disconnected from power for five minutes, I restarted it.  I noticed that Time Machine does not provide an expected time of next backup, so I checked the logs.

Does this log make sense to anyone?

The key line seems to be this one:-

10/23/15 9:27:58.615 AM UserEventAgent[53]: com.apple.backupd-auto launchd job disabled

Any suggestions as to how to get Time Machine running automatically again?

I have an interesting take on this. My Time Machine backups, which cycle round 3 different targets, had been running fine for a week or two since I installed El Capitan at 10.11.1 level. Then I enabled Powere Nap and restarted, and soon ran into the stuck backup issue. I saw references to unplugging the UPS USB cable, and tried that, and backups started going OK again. I then recoonected the cable, restarted after powering everything off and reconnecting the UPS to the mains. Again the problem soon appeared. So, there is some connection between Time Machine problems are the connected UPS, as others have reported.

However, I decided to disable Power Nap, re-start all the hardware and then reboot, and it has been running backups successfully for a couple of days now with the UPS connecked via USB. So, is it the combination of Power Nap and Connected UPS that causes the problem, and one can bypass it by disabling either of them?

    Thanks, @JPinCheshire

I don't have Power Nap and I have the phenomenon.

Apple has acknowledged that this behaviour appears to be a function of some aspect of (the combination of) USB and 'plain' UPS - and implied that there is an imminent fix.

Some users of at least one of the 10.11.2 betas have reported that TM works as expected in that environment.
