Q: El Capitan Maps App Problem

The Maps app on my iMac has developed a serious fault. The basic window functions are OK, but no maps or satellite views are shown and the Directions feature reports "Directions Not Available" even when valid addresses are typed in to the Start and End fields. It seems like Maps has lost connectivity with the internet, but how can it be fixed?

iMac (27-inch, Late 2013), OS X El Capitan (10.11.1)

Maps has not worked correctly since Apple came out with it.  I believe I was only able to use Apple's Map app once  - probably in Yosemite. I get a window and a grid  - no map & no satellite view.  The app told me to I needed to turn on Wifi - why when I have the iMac hooked to a 75mbit ethernet cable?  I tried Wifi and got the same problem.

Just go to Google Maps online and use that - it works every time!

Have you tried turning on the location services?

When we installed El Capitan we could see the maps OK, but couldn't get the "Directions" to work.

    1. Turn on the location services for Maps

    2. For "Start:" use either a typed in address or "current location"

    3. For "End:" use a typed in address followed by "return"

    This worked for us.

    good luck!

In my case [newly configured MacBook (Retina, 12-inch, Early 2016)] the plist file that needed to be removed and regenerated was ~Library/Preferences/com.apple.MapsSupport.plist and not ~Library/Preference/com.apple.Maps.plist (which didn't exist).

Before deleting that file and rebooting, Maps didn't display anything.

Hopefully this helps anyone else trying to follow the solution verbatim and not finding the file.

I have a similar problem with Maps under el Capitan. I ALWAYS check to make sure Location Services is active under the Privacy/Security Pane of System Preferences. Under the Maps view, I can type in ANY valid address and I'm told "no results found." All I see is a grid.

Under Satellite view, I get a message that "Labels for Satellite View are not available in my area." Holy crap! I live 30 miles southwest of Indianapolis, and it worked just fine until 2-3 weeks ago, about the time I was forced to do a Time Machine restore.

I'm also unable to retrieve my e-mail with Mail because the Internet Accounts pane won't accept my sbcglobal.net settings. I get an unending "Next" button which won't work.

I'd also like to mention that I can't seem to get on the AppStore. I just get the spinning start-up wheel (not the beach ball).

I can't complete purchases from the iTunes Store because I get a message telling me Port 443 needs to be open, but no one will tell me how to turn that port on, or how to get my Maps running again. I can live with getting my e-mail through att.net, but I've been complaining about these things for nearly a month now.

Hope someone can lend me a hand here. I'd really appreciate it!

    Allen
