Q: Ipad Pro shuts off while charging and requires a hard reset to turn on

Hello,

I got my iPad Wednesday, spent the evening getting it all setup.  Restored from back up, ensured everything was there, wiped my iPad air 2 (sold it), deleted it's back up and went on with my normal routine.

At night it was down to 40% so I charged it and went to bed.  When I woke up it was "dead".  It wouldn't wake up.  I needed to perform a hard reset to get it to come to life.  Worked on it for a couple of hours and had to run an errand.  Plugged it back in as I was going to need a full charge later that day.  Came back to it, same thing.  Dead.  I needed to perform a hard reset to get it to turn on.

Used it more, then last night plugged it in and this morning, same thing.  I am thinking that there is an issue with this iPad.

I am now restoring it, since that it what online support recommended I try.  Just wondering if anyone else has had this issue?

Thanks.

iPad, iOS 9.1, This is an iPad Pro

Sort of true, but many of us peruse the forum looking for tips or problems we might not have discovered as well as with problems that do not include this issue with the iPad Pro crashing when charging. All posts have many, many more views than replies, if you've ever noticed, and it's those folks I asked to chime in. I don't honestly see how your reply was helpful to the discussion

I have only had my Pro 128 for 24 hours and the only charge I have done so far is with the cable connected to my pc, but I have not encountered the problem reported in this and like threads.

contacted apple support and made them aware of this thread and problem this morning. They will contact me tomorrow or next week and check if resorting iPad and setting up as new will fix it. Still haven't charged it to 100% yet to see if it has been fixed. The senior iOS advisor strongly feels that there will be another update. He conveyed my input to engineering. It would be good to call and report this issue individually so that they know there is a problem out there. I spent 20 minutes on the phone.

Yes. Same problem here. Got the pro on Wednesday, and it requires hard reboot after charging. This is unacceptable.  Starting to lose faith.

Same problem as well.  3 days and 3 hard resets. Ridiculous!

I am having this same issue- restored from iTunes, enjoyed it all day... plugged it in last night to charge- needed to hard reset to get it to reboot this morning. This is ridiculous. Chatting with support now. Getting the run around... tried to fix this via Chat... the passed me around twice, now trying to shove me off to a phone advisor later so they can get rid of me. Not happy.

now will load apps one by one

I do not know if related but I switched off handoff which may have been contributor

The purpose of this thread is to form a big list of people who are experiencing this problem and hopefully get Apple's attention. Posting that you did not experience this problem takes the needed focus away. Let's not write off this valid issue that many have been experiencing.

Given how many have posted, this seems clear to be a firmware issue that can only be solved with a software update, in my humble opinion.

Having the same issue. It only seems to do it when idle at night for me.... Pretty frustrating

Thank you for the confirmation. This rules out the cause of "bad iCloud backup", then. On occasion, I have noticed Apple Genius professionals resorting to it.

I will be happy to provide my update once I receive my unit, slated for the end of next week.

    Cheers!

Same thing here. It had been working fine up until I charged it overnight. Went to use it this morning and it was dead, wouldnt power on at all. Had to do a hard reset, everything is working fine now. Obviously this shouldnt be happening.  Sure hope this is a firmware issue. Im going to try to reproduce the same issue once the battery goes down some.  I will post again after I try that. HOPE YOU ARE PAYING ATTENTION APPLE!!

I Also have the exact same problem. If I charge it for more than an hour I have to do a hard reboot to turn back on. Apple please fix!!!!!
