Nov 16, 2015 2:09 PM in response to den.thedby matthewfox1972,Okay, two replies, both positive - but as usual, never as simple as it seems.
I created a child's account on my iMac today. All good, accessed the settings and enabled only the apps. that I want my son to use. Logged off, and logged in with newly created user account. Went to create Apple ID with his email address and hit an error because his DOB doesn't permit it.
So, logged back into my account. Set up family sharing. All good, until the point I'm asked to create an ID for him - default is an @iCloud.com suffix, can't change it ... He has an email address, I don't want him to have two.
So then I thought okay, I'll just create a separate iTunes library, after all, all I want is for him to be able to sync. his own iPod, how hard can it be. New library created, but because it looks at my Apple ID he sees all the iTunes music that I have bought off the store.
I gave up ...
My requirements are:
- Son has his own user name to log into iMac and a totally separate, and empty iTunes library that he can start from scratch
- an Apple ID that uses his own current email address
How can that be done please?

Nov 16, 2015 3:10 PM in response to matthewfox1972by Duane,You have the first item set up.
For the second item -> According to the information in the thread Creating Itunes Account for Child, account holders must be 13 years old.

Nov 18, 2015 1:05 AM in response to Nielby matthewfox1972,I don't have the first one set up. It requires me to use an @icloud.com email address for the identity - but what I want to use is his existing email address - I'm happy to manage the account through family sharing but I do not want to be forced into using an icloud email address when he already has a perfectly good one.
Niel's reply points to the creation of an Apple ID through Family Sharing, which is what I am referring to here - it defaults to an icloud address. However, the post also suggests that the email address can be changed ?
Is it possible to do?

Nov 18, 2015 6:29 AM in response to matthewfox1972by Duane,You can create his Apple ID at https://appleid.apple.com/with any email address.
You can also add other email addresses to an existing Apple ID account.

We're going round in circles. That link is where you create an initial Apple ID, which is not permitted for someone of my son's age. -
Nov 18, 2015 7:13 AM in response to matthewfox1972by Duane,I'm suggesting that after you create his account in Apple menu > System Preferences > iCloud > Manage Family, you can visit https://appleid.apple.com/ to add his current email address. Assuming that works, he can then use his current email address to access his account.
