Q: iMac Late 2012 3TB Fusion Drive installing Boot Camp?

Hi, I've been having issues installing Windows 7 via bootcamp and after doing some research online, I found out that the 3TB Fusion Drive did not support Boot Camp PRIOR to OS X 10.8.3.

I am running 10.10.2, however, it still isn't working. The Boot Camp Assistant freezes at the partition creating step.

Is there anyone who knows a way around this?

iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10.2)

    1. Try and Repair the whole Fusion drive using Disk Utility. If you are comfortable using Terminal in OSX, I suggest running a diskutil verifyVolume on the Fusion drive, which is most likely disk2 (you can check using diskutil cs list).

    2. If this does not address your issue, please post the output of the following Terminal commands

    diskutil list

    diskutil cs list

sudo gpt -vv -r show /dev/disk0

    sudo fdisk /dev/disk0

The "sudo" commands will prompt for your password, and it will not be echoed back. You may also see a warning about improper use of "sudo" and potential data loss due to "abuse" of the command.

    1. Please post the  output of the following Terminal commands.

    sudo fdisk /dev/disk0

sudo gpt -vv -r show /dev/disk1

    sudo fdisk /dev/disk1

    2. Can you check Application -> Utilities -> Console logs for any disk-related messages?

    3. From OSX Terminal, run

         diskutil verifyVolume disk2

         diskutil verifydisk disk0

         diskutil verifyDisk disk1

    and post the output.

Your Fusion drive seems to be OK. Can you try the BCA partitioning and open a Console window and check for any messages? How long does it stay frozen, before you force the Mac to shutdown?

Actually, it's not that the Mac itself freezes, but it's that it gets stuck at the "Partitioning disk..." step and I end up having to force quit it.

    This came up:

How long do you let it run before your Force Quit?

Can you run the following two procedures and re-test BCA?

Hello, I let it run for about 10 minutes. At the moment, it still seems to be stuck on the same spot even after I did both those processes.

okay, the SMC reset worked like a charm, it finished. the problem is that right how, i am on a black screen saying "non-system disk" press any key to reboot. It isn't responding to anything.

Let it continue to run, and open a Terminal windows and run diskutil cs list and see if it changes. If it does not, as a test, go into Disk Utility and create a 1TB FAT partition and see if it hangs or gives you any errors. If it works, we will remove the 1TB partition (not erase it) and see if BCA will let you do that.

The worst-case is to manually partition and see if the BCA can be bypassed completely.

forget what i said earlier about it being stuck - i was being impatient and it ended up finishing. the problem now is taht i am on a black screen saying "non-system disk, press any key to reboot." nothing is responding.

i can't do anything - it is just stuck on the black screen. pressing keys do not reboot it. should i manually power it off?

Are you using a USB Installer? If yes, please ensure that you are using a USB2 flash drive. USB3  flash drive will not work. There should be no other external storage or any USB hubs connected. The USB2 flash drive must be connected directly to the iMac.
