Q: IOS 9 FaceTime Bug

Hi everyone!

I've been running IOS 9 since it came out today, as well as all the Public Betas.

When i was beta testing it, there was a very annoying FaceTime bug on my iPad 4. Whenever I made a FaceTime Call, I was told that the quality was very choppy, i constantly showed 'poor connection', and my face was covered in pixelated lines.

I was very happy when i installed the final version of IOS 9. I thought that the bug would go away, but it didnt. I FaceTime called by boyfriend, and he says that its very choppy, and the pixelated lines are still present all over the camera. I had to go back to IOS 8.4.1 on my iPad, because that is the main feature i use on my device. I also have an iPhone, and there's no such problem with facetime. I think it's a 4th gen iPad related issue.

Anything i could do? Thanks!

iPad (4th gen) Wi-Fi, iOS 9

Can i ask, what you meant by 'cannot make face time calls''?  Did you have the pixelated lines during a call, and always loosing connection?

I think that you are talking about a different problem.

Same issue here with iPad 4 at my aunties house, her internet is 4 up .5 down, FaceTime was fine before ios9 upgrade. My iPad 4 also the same there but at my house my internet is 200 down 12 up and face time is ok. So I'm thinking it could be something to do with the way facetime compresses the video For a slower connection On the iPad 4, oh and my 6s plus on her network facetime works fine (wifi only)

OK. So there is no point to upgrade. I guess I will still be using Skype.

OK so 2 different iPad 4 on a 4 down .5 up internet FaceTime video out is poor connection. Frozen or none at all.

iPhone 6 Plus (wifi only) and an iPad Air FaceTime works great, very clear video both ways.

both iPad 4 on a 200 down and 12 up work ok, so it seems iOS 9 with a slower Internet has broken the video compression going out?

I Have done all updates but still doesn't work or should I say the video doesn't. I'm convinced it's my wifi that's not fast enough for upgrade as my FaceTime works at other people's houses!

I own ipad4, ipad air and ipadair2, all used by different family members. After the ios 9 update, ipad4 has the poor connection/quality problem with facetime. I've tried all models in different networks with 21 mbs and 47.5 mbps internet speeds, only ipad4 has this problem constantly. Before ios 9, we were able to have a great quality of facetime video even with 5-6 mbs internet speeds.

I've completely restored the ipad4 through itunes and the problem continues. It is clear that Apple has begun to implicate a new facetime data transfer protocol and there is nothing left to do but waiting for a patch from Apple in order to make a possible compliance among older ipads for the new facetime protocols. I hope Apple engineers are aware of the problem.

They do not read these forums and they don't care about you or me. This company reminds me of Research In Motion . I have been a die hard Apple fan. Now starting with my laptops I am slowly weaning myself of their products.

So I tried a public beta of 9.2 B4 and it works well, it is the image quality and stable!

try to load version 9.2! Or wait for iOS 9.2 ready!

did you try this on an iPad 4th gen? Also, did you have any weird lines during a FaceTime Call? I dont mean, the call quality and pixelation, but actual weird lines all over the screen while talking? Thanks!

I've just connected to the ipad 4 updated to 9.2 and it seems good, too. Facetime video quality is now far better than the previous versions.

I hope they don't make it worse in the future again.
