Q: Mac Mail won't let me navigate inside folders to find files to attach

Mail used to allow you to select files inside a folder to attach. I must have changed my settings because now when I click on a folder to get inside it, the entire folder is selected as an attachment. So, the Mail attachment function no longer works.

Any ideas?

Hi --- I've started having this problem too --- did you solve it?

Are you using the column view when trying to attach a file?

Hi -- I'm not entirely sure how you define column view. But it does seem to be something to do with which display option is selected in Finder because randomly (like now!) I can't replicate the issue (ie it *is* now giving me the option to attach individual files).

I think it started when I was trying to find an attachment and changed the settings top left so it would display everything in Name order -- and it was after that that than whenever I clicked on a folder it attached it instead of opening it to show me the documents inside.   But for now it seems to be behaving again.  I think I may have solved it by navigating back up to Dropbox or something even though it was displaying the folder I needed (which it wouldn't open and instead kept attaching). By going to the top level again it may have sorted it.  But it's very frustrating that it should do this at all!

If you're able to clarify what you mean by columns view that may help for next time -- thanks very much!
