Q: iPhone 6 Can't Scan Fingers

A few days ago I recieved an iPhone 6. It is 64 gb and I updated to iOS 9.1. I was very excited to use the fingerprint scanner to unlock it. However, every time I scan my finger(s) it gets to the last step of the first part and then says "Fingerprintbcannot be read, try a different finger".

So far, I haves tried about 40 times and it has worked twice but after it says it is ready, the lock screen will not accept it. I have tried 3 different fingers and made sure that each finger and the home button were clean and dry for each scan.

As I said before, it usually makes it to the last step of the first part before it asked for you to adjust the grip. Also, every single time on the 4th scan it says, please don't move between scans, even though I did not and it has never said that besides the 4th scan.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

    Hi there Theren1,

It sounds like you are having trouble setting up Touch ID on your iPad. I would start by quitting the Settings app on the device:

Force an app to close in iOS
    https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201330

    1. Press the Home button two times quickly. You'll see small previews of your recently used apps.
    2. Swipe left to find the app you want to close.
    3. Swipe up on the app's preview to close it.

When you have done that restart the device and test the issue again:

iOS: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201559

If that does not resolve the issue then I would use the Get Help section of the following article about Touch ID found here:

Use Touch ID on iPhone and iPad

If you still need help, follow these steps. Try again after each step:

    1. Make sure you have the latest version of iOS.
    2. Make sure that your fingers and the Home button are clean and dry.1 For the Home button, use a clean, lint-free cloth to wipe off any dirt or debris.
    3. Your finger should cover the Home button completely, touching the surrounding metal ring. While Touch ID is scanning, you shouldn't press down hard, tap too quickly, or move your finger around.
    4. If you're using a case or screen protector, make sure it doesn't cover the Home button or the surrounding ring.
    5. Tap Settings > Touch ID & Passcode. Make sure that iPhone Unlock or iTunes & App Store is on, and that you've enrolled one or more fingerprints.
    6. Try enrolling a different finger.
    7. If you can't enroll any of your fingers, take your device to an Apple Retail Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider, or contact Apple Support.
