Q: Yosemite Messages + Google (Jabber) Account = Broken

After upgrading to Yosemite (OS 10.10), my Google accounts (Gmail and Jabber) no longer work with the Messages app. Only Bonjour is working. Mind you, I have been using my Gmail accounts with Messages (iChat) as far back as Mac OS 10.4.

For troubleshooting purposes, I added a brand new Google account to Messages, seeing if old account settings had been corrupted during the upgrade. However, this also failed.

Basically, the Google/Jabber account tries to connect, stating "Connecting…", but then eventually fails and says, "Disconnected."

I also looked at the Jabber port settings. There's nothing unusual about it.

Any ideas?

    Messages > Preferences / Accounts

Select the Google account then the Server Settings button/tab on the right hand end of the right hand pane.

    Hey,

I found the settings you are talking about, but I don't see the "server settings button/tab"Screen Shot 2015-11-19 at 1.48.22 PM.png

    Hi,

That is the second time I have seen someone post a version like that.

    Mine looks like this.

    Google.png

Effectively it has done so since iChat 4 when the separate Google option was added.

I am not sure why it appears different.

Having said that I know that on my Google Mail Web Login the Chat option is to Google Talk after I was offered the option to revert from Hangouts.

I was trying to solve another issue with my Google account and was trying some changed settings when the messages came up.
