Q: How do I associate an iPhone to my Apple ID?

Actually, my iPhone already says it is associated with my one and only Apple ID, but iTunes apparently disagrees. There is no option in iTunes > Manage Devices to add a device, although devices can be removed. This page is no help at all: http://support.apple.com/en-us/ht4627. Sorry if I got to the wrong support community. Apple's browse communities menu is a cruel joke. Apparently, there is no community for Apple ID, although there is a support page for it. ????

Thanks very much for your prompt reply! Unfortunately, that page tells you how to remove a device from an Apple ID, but not how to add one. My problem is a strange one. I have only one Apple ID. All of my devices are set up with that Apple ID. However, the iPhone returns an error suggesting it isn't associated with the same Apple ID. (Apple's wording is vague.) I think the problem may rest with Apple's generally poor cloud/community implementation. This really shouldn't be so difficult or obtuse.

You have a device that was configured with a different Apple ID than yours. Did you purchase this as a used item? If so and if the Find My Phone option is enabled, then only the original vendor can help you: Find My iPhone Activation Lock. On the other hand if this is your own original device in which you used a different Apple ID, then you can do what is needed to release it from the Find My Phone activation lock in order to configure it with your current Apple ID.

If all you need to do is sign out of the old ID, then tap Settings > iTunes & App Store > the displayed Apple ID. A panel pops up from which you can opt to sign out. Then you can sign in anew but use the correct Apple ID.

Thanks again! I tried the sign out and sign back in process (which I think I had tried before), but it didn't work. I never had two different Apple IDs, only the one. That may be why it's not working now, although why the same ID wouldn't apply is weird. I think I'll give up on it. I don't use my iPhone for media. There really were only a few things I wanted for the phone. A disappointment, but not a big deal.

If you expect any real help, you're going to have to give us something that's a little more specific than "it didn't work"...

What happened, EXACTLY, when you tried?

Thanks, again for all your attention. It's really very kind. I guess more specifics about the problem would help ;-)  What I have seen every time I have tried to download anything to the phone after installing iOS 7 says, "This device is already Associated with an apple ID You can auto-download purchases on this device with just one Apple ID every 90 days. You cannot associate this device with a different Apple ID for 90 days." That's also the message I was getting yesterday. Today, when I open the Music app, it says "No Content. You can download music from the iTunes Store." I click on the Store button, then click on the song I want to download, and I get the same message: This device is already Associated with an apple ID You can auto-download purchases on this device with just one Apple ID every 90 days. You cannot associate this device with a different Apple ID for 90 days.

The only option you have is to wait until the 90 day waiting period is up. The message is pretty clear. You can only change the Apple ID used for downloading content every 90 days. There is no magic way to get around that.

Hi! I had the same issue and finally found the solution.

All you need is turn on iTunes Match, Family Sharing, or Automatic Downloads, or download past purchases on your computer, iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch as stated here https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204074

    I hope, it helps.

    Adios!

Hi, I'm facing this same problem and I still can't believe that the only solution would to wait 90 days. That seems ridiculous to me. I tried doing the iTunes match, but you have to pay for that. Does anyone know of another way to solve this problem? i need to listen to my Matilda the musical!!

I'm not sure if it's too late for this but I was having the same issue and this worked for me:

    1. Go to https://appleid.apple.com/ and login at Manage your Apple ID
    2. Select Password and Security on the left side
    3. Under Manage Your Trusted Devices select Add or Remove Trusted Devices
    4. Select Remove for unwanted devices and Verify to add a device that you want to add.

    Hope this helps!
