Q: Difficulty connecting mac mail to exchange server

I have an imac air but I am having great difficulty connecting to my company server which is a 2003 Microsoft Exchange Server (i know its old but is due for upgrade in 2017). Any suggestions how I may connect rather than use webmail? Tks
