Q: Ipad Pro shuts off while charging and requires a hard reset to turn on

Hello,

I got my iPad Wednesday, spent the evening getting it all setup.  Restored from back up, ensured everything was there, wiped my iPad air 2 (sold it), deleted it's back up and went on with my normal routine.

At night it was down to 40% so I charged it and went to bed.  When I woke up it was "dead".  It wouldn't wake up.  I needed to perform a hard reset to get it to come to life.  Worked on it for a couple of hours and had to run an errand.  Plugged it back in as I was going to need a full charge later that day.  Came back to it, same thing.  Dead.  I needed to perform a hard reset to get it to turn on.

Used it more, then last night plugged it in and this morning, same thing.  I am thinking that there is an issue with this iPad.

I am now restoring it, since that it what online support recommended I try.  Just wondering if anyone else has had this issue?

Thanks.

I just received my iPad Pro Wi-Fi+LTE last night and I am experiencing the narcoleptic response from overnight charging as well.  I will try the Airplane Mode charging method tonight to see if that's a remedy, but it should only be a temporary fix.  I join everyone's hopes that this is addressed & resolved in the next update, both as a user and investor.

My guess is that 9.2 will come before the US Thanksgiving holiday, which is Nov 26.

There are 2 ways that I know of to get the 9.2 beta:

    1) Apple's iOS public beta.  After you add your device to the program, the beta is available in Software Update.

Maybe some of those who have done it can confirm that the 9.2 beta is available like this.

    2) Apple's developer program.  I think it requires the subscription.  It's a more involved procedure to update, which I think includes backup and restore.

Given that I think it will be fixed next week, I'm going to wait.

My workaround?  Don't charge it overnight or to 100% very often.  Just charge it during the day as I use it.

I am having the same problem. It has happened five times in the last week. The Apple Store genius said that it was a known issue, and that it was software related, and he was hoping Apple would fix it with a patch soon. He said there are no known fixes.

I have the same problem three times charging and three times shutdown and hard reset... Just singing up into the iOS 9.2. public beta and will install after iTunes backup is completed. Will stay tuned to this thread and post if any success.

Device : 128GB WIFI and CELLULAR silver, Wifi on, BT off, LTE activated...

BTW apple support in the store in HH Germany was ignoring the problem and suggesting phone support... and the 1st level support on the phone "was not aware at all"... Only got suggestions like "did you try turning it on and off again".....

    Very disappointing !!!

Installing Public Beta 9.2 tonight and will report...

    For what its worth:

I actually got through to an apple care supervisor yesterday, before I found this thread. I have been working with him, and he has acknowledged there is an issue (on my ipad at least). I have sent them a number of logs so far, and he has been working with Apple's engineering. I forwarded this thread to him, and he has passed this along to his engineers (i hope...). I have not received any answers so far, but at least someone is looking at the problem in my case. I know what I am experiencing (as far as the freezing after overnight charge) is the exact same as everyone else in this thread, so if I get any answers at all I will post them. I hope an update comes out very soon fixing the problem.. Cheers.

I am worried that if it is a hardware issue  I will have difficulty returning the unit. Does anybody know what the return policy is?  I'm not sure if it is worth waiting out until they figure out a solution.

You have two weeks from date of purchase to return an item for any reason with no penalty.  However, the warranty will cover it for one year for a hardware issue and two years if you purchased Apple Care.

IIt's definitely not the hardware.  It will be fixed in the next iOS release.  Hopefully yet this week.

I just stumbled across this forum while searching for a supposed firmware update for the iPad pro.  (I received notification of this...)  I have an iPad Pro (128gb WIFI + cellular in a Logitech Create keyboard/case, active on AT&T's network as well as WIFI), and I haven't had the slightest indication of what people here are reporting.  I charge it every night using the charging block it came with, but with the lightning cable from my iPad Air 2.  The cable that came with the IPP is on my iMac and hasn't been used since I set it up from the backup of my iPad Air 2 on 11/12.  I don't know if I'm just fortunate, it's the cable or some other reason, but I hope that doesn't change.  By the way, I haven't found or installed the iOS 9.2 beta.

iOS 9.2 beta 3 has solved my problem with freezes - two recharges in a row with no freeze for now. Before that I had 4 freezes after each recharge. I'm now a happy camper and looking forward to the final 9.2. I've had no problems with the beta, though. So definitely a software problem that will be solved shortly for you all!

Had the same trouble here, overnight charge and the iPad was compleet off. 128GB version. Contacted Apple and the advise was to install as a new iPad in iTunes. This did not solve the problem. After that the Apple helpdesk suggested to bring in the iPad and change it for a new one. I suggested to the Helpdesk to use my develloper account and install IOS 9.2 beta 3 and then check iff this will help. After installing 9.2 beta 3 and charge overnight to 100% no problem anymore. So this is not hardware related but this is firmware related. This morning used the iPad and reload again and everything works fine now. Hope this will help for all people wit the same trouble and are able to install the beta.
