I also had this problem and it appears to me that some people are having a software issue and some need to simply clean it.

    Try this, worked for me!

After hours of Googling the problem I tried cleaning BOTH the headphone jack and dock port with white vinegar and a cotton bud.

With scissors cut both sides of the bud down so they can fit in the parts you need to clean, use one end for the jack and one end for the 30 pin charge bit,

Give them a good thorough clean (you might need to clean a few more time with more buds for it to work), then give the port and jack a blow and should be fixed, if problem persists try blowing the parts really hard again. I am sure that this is the MAIN reason for the sound and has nothing to do with software problems on most cases

This is what I did and was surprised it worked as I was doubtful!

Ok I have same problem and looking at all the other posts I think I narrowed my problem to the charger. I recently bought a charger from Tesco and although it wasn't a cheap one it's still not official apple charge (my apple one was a bit tempormental)

i popped in the old charger and get presto I got sound back!

if eveyone can check if they are uding official apple charger then this could be a potential fix ?

But but as always with apple who the f#ck knows as they already cost me £1500 with a dodgy logic motherboard on my MacBook Pro.

Hope that info helped in done way!

Just tried both reset all settings and deleted soundcloud from my iPad. Issue still persists. Music playing from iPad music library randomly cuts out (no audio). Convinced its a software issue because problem persist on i pad speakers, external speakers, and headphones. + I have just restored iPad entirely and updated to latest iOS. Weird. Please help me, someone. Can't tell you how much I love my music

I too have had no in-app sound (Safari, YouTube, games) from the speakers, no in-app volume slider or level indicator (Ringer) when I push the up/down volume buttons on the side of the phone, but I can play music with iTunes. I tried restarting, updating iOS, syncing, settings, etc. -- everything short of restoring. I cleaned the contacts on the 30-pin connector and the headphone jack. Nothing made any difference.

I saw a post from a year and a half on this thread and thought "Nah…, that's stupid!" But it worked!

I opened the Calendar app, then closed it fully (home button twice, swipe up to close app). Voila! My sound is restored. That is the weirdest fix I have ever seen, BUT IT WORKED!!

    Hi,

My wife has the iPhone 4S and got the exact same problem. I googled and found this thread.

I'm reading all these fancy solutions, and I thought I would try something else, and it worked.

    Here is my solution:

    1. Restart your phone

Not sure if it will work for you, but it worked for me.

I had this issue recently. My ringer and text sounds were fine, but no music or app sounds. I tried the hard reset and pinching the corner where the speaker is and it worked. 2 days later, same issue and nothing was working to fix it. I read this discussion and decided to delete the Fitbit app that I had recently added, which was one app that sound wouldn't work. Deleted the app, and music, etc. worked again! I downloaded the app again and everything is currently working.

csschwe's trick of opening and closing the Calendar app just worked for me on my iPhone 6 with iOS 9.3.5!

Closing every app and restarting the phone hadn't worked, but the calendar trick restored my sound in Music.
