Q: We could not complete your iTunes Store request.  The network connection could not be established.

After receiving the above response, an additional error is displayed.  We could not complete your iTunes Store request.  An unknown error occurred (-50). There was an error in the iTunes Store.  Please try again later.  I've received these responses for the past 3 hours.  I'm also getting an error on my iPhone (Cannot connect to iTunes Store).  Does anyone know what to do to resolve this issue?  Thanks.

I had the same problem these few days, but today I have found the solution. Just follow these steps because it works for me. I am not sure if it's going to work for you, but you should try:

    1. Open iTunes.
    2. On Mac OS X: From the iTunes menu, choose Preferences.
    3. On Windows PC: From the Edit menu, choose Preferences.
    4. Click the Parental Controls tab.
    5. Place a checkmark next to the option to disable the iTunes Store, and next to the option to Allow access to iTunes U
    6. Click OK.
    7. Open iTunes preferences again.
    8. Choose the Parental Controls tab.
    9. Remove the checkmark next to the option to disable the iTunes Store.
    10. Click OK.
    11. Test the issue.

If resolved, it is possible the issue may return in the future. Look for updates to this article or apply future iTunes software updates for a permanent resolution.

    Good luck,

    Good luck,

These steps worked for me. I believe the key is disabling access to iTunes U as well.

After re-enabling access, I signed into the iTunes store. After that everything worked fine.

    Thanks Sovithyea!

Same error here.  Can't purchase from either of my Macs tonight.  Been trying for about 2 hours.   Parental Controls toggle didn't work for me.

    I can ping itunes.apple.com and ax.apple.com

    I can not ping alber.apple.com gs.apple.com or phobos.apple.com

Can anybody else?  This may be a false trail.

Check your firewall and anti-virus software. An update or something created a second entry which was blocked - unticked all fine!!! Also stuffed up my apple TV.

Disable iTunes Store in Parental Controls

    Exit iTunes

Launch iTunes, notice you cannot log into iTunes Store

    Exit iTunes

Launch iTunes, enable iTunes Store in Parental Controls

    Exit iTunes

Launch iTunes and log into iTunes Store.

    This did the trick.

I don't know how you figured this out, but this worked immediately for me after days of getting this error message and thinking the iTunes store was down. When I was able to get to the store on another computer, I knew something was up with this one, and googled the error message. This was one of the first things that showed up -- thanks!
