Q: Why does my iPhone 6 not show up in my computer when it's plugged in with the USB cable?

Hello

I have an Iphone 6 for about one week now. I would like to view my photos and movies on my laptop (windows 7). But I can't view them because it doesn't show up as a portable device in my computer. When I plug it in I do hear the sound as if any USB would make.

Does anyone know what's going on? Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks a lot!

Not sure if this may work for you(or anyone else), was for me to go to Device Manager>Portable Devices>(There should be a device, and it should have a exclamation mark beside the icon)>Disable the device>Re-enable the device.

    Control Panel

    View Devices & Printers

    ...scroll down to "Unspecified"

Apple Mobile Device USB Driver (right-click)

    Properties

    Properties (under the Hardware tab)

Change settings (under the General tab)

    Driver (tab)

    Update Driver...

This is what worked for me.

Thank you so much johnnyb for your precise and helpful advise mentioning this media espresso programme  -  you have saved me from wasting some more hours on this issue or even from buying some other connecting cables or installing unnecessary transfer software ... your advised solution was easy to do and surprising - how can such an tiny/rare (?) programme block the whole functioning of an, as so often mentioned, easy transfer of photos ... Thanks again for finding this out and spreading the word !!!

i use window vista + iPhone 6plus, and i had that problem for a while, iTunes recognized my phone but it didn't appear as computer device.

i just managed to fix it.  try this.

    1. control panel --> Hardware and Sound --> Auto Play

    2. change your iPhone device default to "open folder to view files using Windows Explorer"

    3. connect your iPhone

    hope this works for you.

MediaExpresso is a Cyberlink program and probably came with your copy of PowerDVD, if you have that. That's where I got it from.

And this fix worked for me and my iPhone 6 + Windows 7 Pro laptop like a charm. Thank you for sharing!

I made an account just to answer your question. Because I found this terribly frustrating, and the solution, at least for myself, was so simple.

    I have an iPhone 6 and I'm using Windows 10. Doesn't matter. Be sure you're plugging into a USB 2.0 port. iPhone 6 doesn't support USB 3.0.

This problem plagued me for two weeks and I had tried EVERYTHING - until I found the simple answer on some obscure website. Here's the simplest solution yet!  With your iPhone, open up the Camera app and take a picture or two. Make sure the phone is not plugged in when you take the picture(s).  Next, connect your iPhone to your Windows computer, and it will immediately show up in the 'My Computer' window. After you plug your iPhone cable into the computer USB slot, launch iTunes and go to the Store tab in the upper left pull-down menu... click on "Authorize This Computer". Or you may also receive a message asking if you want to “Trust” this computer. When selected “Yes” or “OK” – your iOS device will now be detected.

Make sure that when you connect it to your computer that you have it unlocked and choose to 'Trust this device'.

If that doesn't work then I would suggest trying plugging your device into your computer and then restarting the computer. Sometimes PCs don't pickup new devices unless they're connected upon startup.

    Hope this helps!

    Hi

Since ios 7 you can do almost everything over your WiFi

You DONT need to use your PC

Backup to iCloud on your PC

Then go to settings on iPhone iCloud back up now

If you need more space on iCloud just click on buy more space

Then all your photos will be on all your apple devices

Enable home sharing & iCloud sharing on all apple devices .

We have 3 iphones / 4 ipads & have not used our PC

From them for over 2 years all done on WiFi .

    Cheers

    Brian

I tried what sbgleason said to do and the troubleshoot came up with no problems, even though my connection was on off on off... then I hit troubleshoot on the apple Mobile device next to it, and it told me to plug my phone into a USB 2.0 instead of a 3.0. So I took a look at my USB ports, on my laptop, the 3 USB ports on the left side have blue on the inside, which for some reason I seem to recall that the blue ones signify USB 3.0, on the right side I have 2 grey USB ports. I plugged it in on the right side and so far... 5 minutes later, it seems to be working ok. I'll try connecting to iMazing now... and it works, with a USB symbol next to my phone. (iMazing works through Wifi as well, just in case you guys wanted an alternative to getting pictures off of your iPhone.)

I am sure you got this fixed, but for others who might stumble on your issue as I did, I found the easiest way to solve this was to repair Apple Mobile Support in Programs and features like someone else already mentioned.  As for a permanent fix, who knows...maybe Apple will fix this...(cough cough)...probably not.

I use windows 2008 Server, but I guess it's valid for windows 7 as well.

    - Right click on "My computer"

    - Select Properties / Device Manager

    - On "Universal Serial Bus Controllers" locate "Apple Mobile Device USB Driver"

    - Select Properties and then the tab "Driver"

    - Select [Update Driver]

    - Select "Browse my computer for driver software" option

    - Locate this folder: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers

    - Check include subfolders

    - Click [Next]

Windows will update your drivers and then

Your phone and your pc will make an "I found you" sound and voila!

    Hope this helps

    Slbrtn.-
