Oct 27, 2015 7:32 AM in response to Kjzeeby Liese Schwarz,Here's an update: The Senior Apple dude phoned me back for some clarification of some details (at the request of the engineers), and over the weekend contacted again and I sent captured video from the phone (showing how the podcast stops playing when the camera opens) as well as the diagnostic logs from that session on the phone to Apple. So they do appear to be working on the problem actively.
Oddly, I am now able to use the camera whilst on a voice call - that was not possible before (the camera not working when on a phone call was the first part of this issue that I noticed). I haven't updated software (there haven't been any updates released) during the time the camera went from not working during a phone call to working during a phone call, so it's not clear how THAT happened.
But the main part of the problem persists: opening the camera (or most apps that use the camera - Instagram, Facebook, etc) will stop audio playback, even with Live Photo turned off.
Apple's on it, though, from what I have experienced with the follow-up from Senior Apple Dude! I expect an update will follow...

Oct 27, 2015 7:28 AM in response to Liese Schwarzby dogratt,Thanks for the update. I had no idea about the conflict between the camera and voice calls as well. I'll try testing it out later on my phone.

Nov 13, 2015 5:37 AM in response to Kjzeeby nkbush1787,I feel the "stopping audio" while camera is open is foolish! I, too, go walking around, and love taking photos, and I do listen to music sometimes while doing so. What's funny, is that when I open Flickr and Snapchat's camera, the music DOESN'T stop, but because of the "Live" feature, that is as useless to me as the HTC EVO 3D's 3D camera was. The Live feature actually annoys me, and it just takes more space on your phone, when it's accidentally turned on, and when zooming in on the photos, it's annoying, as it tries to play the "live" portion of it depending on how you touch it.
PLEASE, Apple...put the option back on to have music while we take photos when "Live" is off! I don't see why you can come up with this ever so advanced technology, but can't simply give us the option to have the music while taking photos! It's like Costco making you select from one or two brands of a product to purchase, even though they have the power to sell ten different brands! Complying with this is irritable!

Nov 18, 2015 6:35 AM in response to Kjzeeby Timothy Dz,This was the first thing I noticed when I upgraded from my iPhone 5s to the 6s. I listen to podcasts while I work and I constantly have to take pictures for my job. This is extremely aggravating and needs to be fixed!!

Nov 20, 2015 3:55 PM in response to Kjzeeby BlessingCarl,I'm on brand new 6s with iOS 9.1 and it's getting unbearably annoying to have the playback cut off each time i want to take a simple picture . Please Apple, change this behaviour on the next update!

Nov 22, 2015 9:27 AM in response to Chérie Amourby dougmenuez,Completely agree. This is a standard feature since the first phone. Why go backward? I use it every day and it also fails to shoot when you are using phone apps like What'sApp, it pauses the call while you shoot. As I'm a photographer i see images all the time and if I happen to see one while jogging and listening to music I need this feature to work. No need for people to comment on issues unrelated to their needs, or limited worldview.

Nov 22, 2015 1:53 PM in response to dougmenuezby BlessingCarl,And it doesn't even resume playback after switching out of the camera app. The original source of audio must be reopened, and playback resumed manually. Please!

Nov 22, 2015 4:57 PM in response to Kjzeeby lederermc,Spent 30 minutes with Apple chat support. It's a design feature due to LIVE Photos mode on iPhone 6s. This has alway happened in Video mode only. I files a complaint at the feedback site. http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html

Dec 1, 2015 9:07 AM in response to Kjzeeby Urethanes,Is anything happening on this? I am truly fed up of this glitch. I miss my previous iPhone 5 so much - just because of this feature! Music stopping on switching on the camera, is extremely frustrating.
Apple, please fix this - please!!

Dec 1, 2015 9:23 AM in response to Urethanesby lederermc,Starred post at top of this thread reports Apple will be fixing it in update to come.
-
Dec 1, 2015 9:29 AM in response to lederermcby Liese Schwarz,That "starred post" you mention is pretty meaningless - 2 months old, didn't give any details about HOW he "got my phone working again," and many of the Apple interactions reported since then have reflected a different attitude from Apple.
I am not at all reassured by that post.
