Q: iPhone 6 Mail and gmail not working together.  "Cannot get mail" error comes up repeatedly.

iPhone 6 Mail and gmail not working together.  "Cannot get mail" error comes up repeatedly.  I can restart the phone or delete and recreate the account, and it works for a bit, then the error returns.  Google mail apps work but not Mail. Mail suits me better if it would work.  Any suggestions?
