Nov 18, 2015 3:32 AM in response to carvermonby Terence Devlin,As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?
Post back with the result.

Nov 18, 2015 8:09 AM in response to Terence Devlinby carvermon,Hello,
Thanks for the reply. I just created a second library - same issue. I can do other tasks, but right after selecting the "info" sidebar button, it shuts down.

Nov 18, 2015 9:10 AM in response to Terence Devlinby carvermon,I switched to a test user account and had the same thing happen in the new iPhoto there. Hope you have a next step! Thanks.

Nov 18, 2015 10:06 AM in response to Terence Devlinby carvermon,Well, now I have a potentially much bigger problem. When in the alternate user account, iPhoto said it needed to be updated and previous libraries would not work with the new version. I assumed this was only for the new user's iPhoto, so allowed it. Now, in my own user account, my library is completely gone and there are only the couple of photos that I put into the test account. Please help!!

Nov 18, 2015 10:35 AM in response to carvermonby carvermon,Ok - found the switch to library option and got my original back - but the original crash problem remains.

Nov 18, 2015 12:19 PM in response to carvermonby Terence Devlin,My next step would be to reinstall the app. Check the app is on the Purchases List First.
To re-install iPhoto
1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2. Download it from the App Store to reinstall It's on your Purchases List* there.
For older versions that have been installed from Disk you'll need these additional steps:
2a: On 10.5: Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows: In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
/var/db/receipts/
2c: on 10.7 or later they're at
/private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
*Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.

One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.

Nov 18, 2015 2:57 PM in response to Old Toadby carvermon,Thank you for the tip. I have not yet done the full iPhoto reinstall that TD has suggested, and planned to try your simpler procedure first - but it apparently did not do the trick for akdmks (who curiously had the same issue come up on the same day. I notice there are now 4 people that have clicked the "I have this question too" button). Any further ideas or input will be much appreciated.

Does the crash log you get also show a crash in the com.apple.JavaScriptCore ? In the backtrace for the crashed thread?
