Q: So is there anyway to actually turn off the Apple Pencil or even put it into Airplane mode?

Have now received my iPad Pro and Apple Pencil. I actually received my Pencil first made sure it was fully charged and then my ipad was delivered the next day. Got everything setup on the iPad, paired the pencil, unplugged it and nothing, it simply would not work. Decided to charge for about 15 seconds and it seems the battery had died since charging it. Made me think...how do you actually turn off the Pencil, put it in standby mode, how about Airplane mode? Can't find this addressed in any documentation. Am I really going to have to charge this thing every single night? I assumed the 12 hour battery time was use time, not standby.

Plus the Battery widget is working at all on my iPad, anyone know how to fix that? I have tried to turn it on and off again, but no luck.

Without a device to connect to the pencil kept trying to connect, at full power level. That will drain the battery faster than normal. Once paired the power level will drop and the battery will last longer. You will probably have to charge each night. I would so that I know the pencil is good for the day.

As for airplane mode don't worry. Airplane mode shuts down all the radios. However you can keep Bluetooth (how the pencil connects) active on an airplane without issues. What you really want to disable is any cellular radios. If you device has no cellular capabilities then don't worry about airplane mode. If you have cellular, enable airplane mode, then selectively turn Bluetooth back on to support the pencil.
