Q: family sharing / ask to buy failing by repeatedly asking for password

The "ask to buy" feature of family sharing is failing 100% of the time for me. My daughter asks to buy something on her iPad. It sends me a notification on my iPhone. So far so good. I open the notification and am presented with options to decline or approve.

Regardless of whether I decline or approve, my iPhone then asks me for my iCloud password over and over and over again. It never accepts my answer, much less accepting it the first time.

Moreover, when I'm declining the request, I shouldn't have to provide my password at all.

Help!

The solution is hidden at Request and make purchases with Ask to Buy - Apple Support:

If you decline the request or don't make the purchase, it will be deleted after 24 hours, and the child will need to make the request again.

So what's going on here is that you're trying to approve an expired request, and it's failing, over and over, without notice or explanation.
