Q: how does mac os track the computer purchases are made on?
Only have one mac but since installing the latest updates, and possibly before been having a LOT of problems. Mostly show up as unexplained kernel panic/crashes in random weird places. Hardware might be the cause but selftests all pass. At any rate, I don't have a lot of apps - and mostly stock Apple.
what is happening is that when running an app from the app store. I guess a message saying it was purchased on another computer (not true, in fact !!) and that I sold enter the password for the Apple ID used to purchase the app. So just a nuisance, though it doesn't end there. When I enter, the ID/password (which have not changed for several years, yeah, I know :-)) I get another message that indicates something is wrong. So the app won't run.
How can I fix this or get around it? First, It seems Mac OS is convinced, I have changed computer, though there have been only software changes, upgrading step by step from Snow Leopard to El Capitan over time. Second, when I supply the correct credentials, I get an 'unexpected error". not helpful nor informative. I am hoping someone here can do better. Screenshots tell the story better than I can :-
