No, you cannot watch local TV through AppleTV. As far as "work with Att Uverse box", you will need to be a little specific about what you want to do. There is certainly no reason you can't use both if you have more than one HDMI input on the TV or the box has an HDMI through put and switch.

Yes?  Each device you have connected to your tv will have its own input. I have directtv as HDMI 1  ATV as HDMI 2 and bluray as HDMI 3. Depending on which device I want to use I have to tell the TV which one I want it to display by changing the input on the tv. Uverse and Apple TV are similar but totally independent devices. One is for cable tv. The other is for streaming personal or internet media...

SO basiclly it's just a fancy version of the previous models . I thought that you could  eliminate  Any other remotes for other devices attached to your Tv.

It is just an updated version of the ATV1/2/3. While there has been long ongoing speculation and rumor about Apple introducing a "cable tv stream" (see below) similar to slingtv it has yet to come to fruition. I actually use the harmony1 remote so I just press watch Apple TV or watch tv or watch bluray and the remote takes care of the various input for the various devices. Although it doesn't allow the Siri capability I prefer it for basic navigation...
