Q: Trusteer's Rapport Software

Bank of Montreal online banking has a pop-up window offering me a free download of Rapport which it says will protect me from online fraud and identity theft. I don't like to download any applications on my imac unless I know it is not going to cause me issues later.
Please advise.
Thanks
Linda

    My bank has this posted on their website where they suggest using Trusteer's Rapport Software;

    If your bank requires Java for their online banking services, you should consider switching to another bank. That shows a frightening lack of security knowledge from the people charged with the task of keeping your money safe.

    I have been using Trusteer Rapport ever since my bank BMO recommended it.  The icon is not showing up in Firefox 41 and Safari 9 on my El Capitan OSX 10.11 machines and this build does not show on TR's supported list, Yosemite being the latest.  TR is running according to the control screen in Systems Preferences.  There is a start and stop button.

    Never had any trouble uninstlling using the uninstaller provided by TR.  Never had evidence of any malfunctions in any of my 3 Macs.

    Hopefully the staff at TR will update soon for OSX 10.11

    I just had the exact problem yesterday. For a while I was afraid the only way to fix it was to upgrade my OSX and get a newer version of Safari. I manually put all the versions of Rapport in the trash and securely emptied it and Safari still wouldn't work but today (thank heavens) it works again. I couldn't even access preferences to uninstall it. What a pain! I will never install Rapport again.

    Trusteer Rapport is the biggest piece of junk software. It crashed my computer. It overheated my computer. It hung up my internet connection. It made my browser sluggish. I uninstalled it, and all the problems went away. Don't, under any circumstance, install Trusteer software on your Mac. The name of the software is so very ironic.

    at the request of our new bank, first republic, we installed the software and within hours it was crashing our 2  machines.  they were overheating, internet connection was disconnected and they kept freezing or restarting on their own.  only had it installed for a day and a half before we removed it and did a little research.  we should have looked it up first, but the bank actually pays you $25 to install it because they said it is so important, so we complied.  big mistake.
