Q: In assistive mode

Was trying to learn all my ipod 4G can do. I found the assistive mode via voice over (I think) and turned it on.

It was fine for like 10 seconds then everything but the automated voice, froze.

The screen, normally movable from settings, won't go further down than what fits on the screen and the off button is further down. It also doesn't want to reset for similar reasons, in that it keeps reading the button names vs activate the function (ie- slide to power off reads the cancel button but the slide won't slide - powering off is possible but doesn't solve the prob, part of which is also the navigation circle getting in the way and not made to shift locations on the screen in assistive mode)

I've also tried more than 3x to reset the iPod and it simple shuts off, turns on, asks for a passcode and the entire struggle with the "stuck"(?) screen starts all over-It will NOT reset.

Is there a work around to get out of assistive mode or reset the iPod? (Pls don't try it on your iPod unless you know because I've been at this for 4.5 hrs and just

following the instructions and needing help w/it!) Is there a way to remove it entirely from the iPod, should I ever get back into it?

Thanks, in advance!

Just tried and didn't work to shut off the voice over thing. I didn't set it to be included there but, I did get the white dot to shut off.

    URGH!

    Thanks!

I still need to get the VO to stop running to hopefully let the screen move freely. Any further suggestions for that one?

While in VoiceOver use three fingers to scroll. When your finger is over something you want to activate and it is anounced you then need to do a quick double tap to activate it. Then go to settings>general>accessibility>voiceover off.

You ou can also also use iTunes to disable VoivceOver. The directions are for zoom, but the same process applies for VO.  iOS: Home screen icons are magnified or large - Apple Support

That's the thing - it should work like you describe only it isn't letting me scroll the page! Just tried again to reset it - won't. I can't get iTunes to download on my Win7....seems a known glitch w/Win7. So, using iTunes to work it out, isn't possible til that glitch can be worked out.

IDK what else to do to make this annoying and ipod killer feature stop!

It was gift so I don't have the receipt. Do you know if Apple will service it w/o the receipt?

Thanks - both of you - this is just so seriously messed up,v between Win7 & Apple, the thrill has gone out at speeds higher than I've seen in

this 'blasted' mode! :S - Sorry but, just v upset since  haven't even had this for 1wk yet!

...ty guys! I really wish I could say it's having a better outcome here but it seems broke.

    Try:

    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on

    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.

    - Try another cable

    - Try on another computer

    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

    Thank-you!

I honestly didn't think there were any options left! Def worth a try and good to know they might be able to fix it, if not. (I thought it's the mode that made it like that; didn't even think of hardware!)

    Again, many thanks!
