Q: Why doesn't Verizon's voice-to-text feature in Visual Voicemail work on iOS devices?

I've been told that Apple devices don't support this Verizon "feature". Is that true, and is there a work-around? Thanks.

iPhone 6 Plus, iOS 9.1

From what I read on Verizon's page http://www.verizonwireless.com/wcms/consumer/products/visual-voicemail.html  this is a specific feature that they provide. While named similar to what Apple provides in iOS, it is something different. Their ability to provide this is based on it being their product, not Apple's. And yes, their link regarding compatible devices does not include iOS devices.

Thanks, although your link led me to a different answer/conclusion -- i.e., it says that the feature should work with with an iPhone as well as any other smartphone, per their Q&A: "All smartphones are compatible with Visual Voice Mail, however, some basic phones aren't." The list of compatible devices it provides is for "non-smart" phones...but I've gotten mixed answers from Verizon and of course Apple says it doesn't support other companies' applictions. The problem is that there aren't seamless solutions other than YouMail, from what I've been able to find...

However if you go to their link regarding compatible devices on the page I showed you, you see this, which includes many smart phones.

And from the FAQ link you indicate.

Notice it indicates that Apple has its own VVM service. This service Verizon provides is for devices other than iOS devices, that do not have a VVM service.

Good point, unfortunately just complicates the question, but I appreciate the clarification/correction to my oversight...do you know of any other options besides YouMail?

No, since I've not investigated it any. I'm satisfied with what I get with the iPhone's VVM, since I generally do not receive a great deal of voicemail anyway. I'm generally able to answer most of my calls, and then only check voicemail when I have the ability to listen. You are welcome to contact Verizon customer service to question them if you like. They can explain their service.

If I understand the feature you're looking for, voicemail messages converted to text, Google Voice will do that. I've used Google Voice as my voice mail service for years because it allows me to use the same voicemail for both of my phones (work and personal). It means I have to have the Google Voice app loaded on my phone and can't use the voicemail button in the Phone app but it's well worth the small inconvenience for me.

Thanks. I'll check into Google Voice again. I tried it a few years ago but abandoned it for some reason I don't recall, perhaps the inability to see the number of new and old voicemails and then just click on them from the same screen? Presumably it's evolved quite a bit so probably worth a second look. Appreciate it.
