Nov 22, 2015 12:12 PM in response to charriveby ChrisJ4203,When you went to put the backup of the old phone onto the new one, where did you see this request for a code? Was it in iTunes? It sounds as if you may have an encrypted backup in iTunes and iTunes is asking for the password before you can use it for the new phone. If you look at the phone when in iTunes and are looking at the Summary page, do you see a checkmark in the Encrypt backup section?

Nov 22, 2015 12:59 PM in response to charriveby ChrisJ4203,Yes, it sounds as if you have an encrypted backup. If you do, then you will need the password for that backup. Also, if you cannot remember this password, then you will not be able to use the backup, you will have to delete it and if you still have the old device you could create a new one. However, if you no longer have the old device, you will lose that data. See this support document that explains encrypted backups. About encrypted backups in iTunes - Apple Support
