Q: Unable to text Contact after Contact switched their number over to Android. iMessage still thinks the phone is iOS so message fails.
Here is the issue.
I have a friend who likes to flipflop he primary phone number to different phones as they come out. I do not know why he changes so often but thats another story. The issue came into play recently when he switched from an iPhone 6s to an Android phone (who cares about the model). When I went to text him yesterday, I didnt even get a delivery confirmation like I usually get. After some digging around and actually calling him to make sure he was still alive and/or not in Jail, I found that in my contacts somehow his number got auto set to IPHONE.
iMessage still thought this number was an iPhone so I changed the contact number type to mobile. That did not fix the issue.
I ended up having to manually type in his number, on the phone, and send a text. This somehow reset or switched the type of number and it sent fine. Not sure why this would be happening but shouldnt the phones logic say, hey this message didnt deliver because its not an iMessage, let me try normal conventions to see if the user may have miss labeled or some config got messed up. Yes I know that adds a TON of extra calls and processing on Apples/Providers part but its for the customers ease of use.
This is here to help anyone else with the same issue and pose Apple to fix this.
