Q: Imessage won't let me text from my iphone's phone number

When I log into imessage, it will not let me send my texts through my phone number, instead it will only send it via my apple ID email. It won't even let me choose to text from my phone number. I currently do not have my phone with me which is the reason why I want to text from my mac, so fixes involving my phone won't help.

Things I have done:

1. Reset NVRAM

2. Logged out of imessage & the Apple ID associated with it

I don't know what else to do. Any help will be great.

Issue didn't arise until after I updated to El Capitan from Yosemite.

    hi,

At no point do you say you have an iPhone.

    This implies you have one:-

Issue didn't arise until after I updated to El Capitan from Yosemite.

On the iPhone > Settings >Messages > Send and Receive does the Number show up.

Is it greyed out (so you can't change it) ?

Is it ticked ? (It sometimes gets "Lost")

if it is not ticked turn the Messages App Off and then On again after a pause.

Allow the Number to verify again.

You may need to reset the Apple ID and SMS forwarding if you were using them.

This should generate the Pop ups on the Mac to say the iPhone is using the iPhone Number and the Apple ID.
