Q: Compatibility of MS Office 2016 with El Capitan
MS Office 365 closes down whenever I try to splict the screen in El Capitan. Is this a compatibility issue?

Based on the article I found which admittedly was about Word it looks like there is still a compatibility problem between Office 2016 and El Capitan and Split-Screen mode. You could try looking for a similar navigation option in Excel and turning it off - which was the suggestion to help Word work, otherwise make sure you keep up-to-date with El Capitan and Office - currently 10.11.1 and 15.16 respectively.
If you don't use Split-screen in Office then it should be ok otherwise.
I believe there is a feedback option in Office 2016 via a smiley face icon, I suggest you use that to feedback to Microsoft regarding this issue. See https://support.office.com/en-sg/article/How-should-I-provide-feedback-for-Offic e-2016-for-Mac-5af00103-9056-4c07-bcae-d…
