Q: iMac Retina Radeon R9 290X Windows 10 video driver

Hello!

Can someone please provide info where to get Windows 10 video driver for my iMac Retina (R9 M290X)?

Bootcamp doesn't help. Catalyst 15.7 cannot detect any compatible hardware.

iMac with Retina 5K display, OS X Yosemite (10.10.4), 2014

U will never get 5K support under Win10 - no software support for 5K chip (Apple proprietary).

The problem was one cannot run 3D games under Wn 10 even in 4K res due to lack of drivers that support iMac Retina videocard under Win 10.

So...are you saying that guys like me, who bought a very expensive machine (and in Brazil they are specially expensive)and need Windows for one reason or anohter, are doomed just because it will not work the way it should do? And Apple, or AMD or Microsoft are not responsible??

I'm unsure what your after ?

Mac OS is and will always be the only way to get 5k true res on the system.

Windows 10 works fine for me, with the supported RES in windows, Obviously not 5K but still greater than 1920x1080.

I can run some games maxed out World of warships etc, but i don't, i normal go for 2xxx X 1xxx

    I have the 295X card.

Are you saying you can even do that, or are you complaining because you can't get 5k and only 3xxx X 2xxx Res ?

The only issue people faced was in the early days when Games wouldn't even run as the driver just wasn't there, now everything i throw at her it plays at 60fps...

Good God!!! So why offering a Boot Camp to install Windows on a Retina display??? That's insane. Zyne the problem is not whether Windows come with 4 or 5K resolution or not. The problem is that annoying impossibility to use games or graphics because there is no drives for my iMac!

I agree with you. Indeed there are drivers for Windows 10 with bootcamp version 6 that you can create with a usb memory from bootcamp assistant version 6 or you can download it from amd web site, supposedly this has to work with just clicking to install the drivers BUT some people are reporting that after install the bootcamp 6 video drivers they still have error 43 in device manager "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)". I have also tried reinstalling driver, etc a lot of procedures, steps (including reinstall windows over and over again), etc and in my case the driver is still not working.

The hardware tests of my iMac are working well, all tests are ok without issues. So this is not a hardware problem, this is a driver incompatibility problem that in some cases drivers are working fine and in other cases drivers are giving error 43 and Apple has no re launched another update of video drivers (bootcamp 6) since September 21, 2015, so the problem is still there.

Of course, a lot of people that have an 5k iMac does not use Windows at all, so they can not see the problem.

AHh this is surprising as my 295x works fine now they released V6 boot camp, are you all saying then Apple still have not done the drivers for the 290 only 295x..

thats stupid. I play games on mine all day long, but in the early days it was awful and I didn't bother

As you can see zyne, you're on the side that everything works fine. And you are right, maybe Apple still have not done the drivers for the 290 or for some series of the 290... This is frustrating.

OOut of interest have you trashed the boot camp and tried from a totally fresh install? I always got reboots if I did it manually. I just trashed it and started again...

I am still having the same Code 43 problem on my Windows 10 Home. It is a clean install. My post here: Re: Boot Camp on iMac Retina 5K?
