I followed the suggestions from kindofblack and others and did this:

    1. First download the old driver from Canon.

    2. Bought the standard edition of Vuescan.

All told, it took me about 30 minutes to figure it all out (including reading these posts and trying a few other solutions) and now works fine, which is good, because my taxes are due. The Vuescan link is:

    http://www.hamrick.com/

Try the free version first to make sure it works for you. The only difference between free and paid is that the paid version removes an ugly watermark from the scans, otherwise functionality is the same.

    Thanks for the suggestions here.

The YouTube video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OWnYeAniGUo worked GREAT on Mavericks on my Macbook Air.  The key I think is the step he mentions where you have to delete something from your computer's Library tree, reboot, then you can successfully navigate to the MacOS 10.7 tree to download the drivers and CanonScan toolbox.  I rebooted in-between just in case.  Worked great.

I had the Canon LiDE 600f in my "Printers & Scanners" menu, and I haven't had any problems scanning under Mavericks and Yosemite... till about an hour ago, today. So the first thing I did was to delete the scanner from the list, and then try to add it again - and this is when I encountered the same problem as everyone else on this page: the scanner cannot be found anymore. I swapped cables, restarted a bunch of times, still there was no resolution to the problem.

But then I downloaded the TWAIN Bridge from this link, ran the installer, and like magic the scanner reappeared in my available Printers & Scanners, so I added it back, and using CanoScan (like I always have), I clicked on Settings (far right of the screen), selected the scanner again from the drop down menu, and then selected the destination of the TEMP files back onto my Desktop. After that, on the main menu of the app, I selected the colour scan button and from the subsequent menu I made sure that "Display the Scanner Driver" tick box was ON.

Then I clicked on Scan (greyed out large button on the bottom-right of the screen) and everything was back in business, with advanced image calibration controls and everything. I'm ever so thankful for the TWAIN Bridge installer, it resuscitated my scanner!!

I know this is an old post...  But I'm trying to get my Canon CanoScan LiDE 600F to work in Yosemite.... Why this stuff isn't supported, I'll never know.  Here's what I've found as a possible solution to anyone who may still be looking:

This is the current answer as of 9/15/2016.

Many thanks to Vuescan and Ed Hamrick!

Yes, you can use VueScan by downloading a compatible driver from Canon, but not necessarily the driver that Canon suggests.

After 2 days of fruitless searching, I emailed VueScan support: http://www.hamrick.com/support/

I sent them my basic info (scanner model, Mac system, etc., and got a simple and correct downloading answer on the same day, within a few hours. As a bonus, the VueScan interface is MUCH much better than Canon; We sent the $40 and got rid of the watermark as soon as we got the scanner up and running. They earned it!

I've used Canon products for many years, and always liked their camera and scanner quality, but this is unforgivable, nothing more than a cheap trick! If they wanted to charge for the correct driver, ok, but don't tell us to dump a perfectly useable scanner!
