Q: Early 2011 MacBook Pro windows 10

Obviously windows 10 isn't supported on an early 2011 MacBook Pro, but can it still be installed onto it?

MacBook Pro (15-inch Early 2011), OS X Yosemite (10.10.4)

I did the following: unzipped the latest Boot Camp setup file and installed the drivers one-by-one manually. After that everything works perfectly.

You may also want to post the Product Version line from bootcamp.xml to let other known which BC driver package you used.

It was BC 5.1.5621. It may not be the latest version, but just before decision to format C and reinstall Win 7 i tried this. Luckily it helped.

I installed only some drivers that i knew by name and seemed logical. Unfortunately don't remember any more.

BC versions are model-year specific. They need to be suitable adjusted for other Macs.

Yeah for some reason the files from bootcamp assistant kept giving me a corrupted installer. So I went to this site to get the zip file of the bootcamp drivers and it worked perfectly. Boot Camp Support Software 5.1.5621

    I have a MacBook Pro 17 early 2011.

First install Windows 10 in an external USB drive. All works perfectly for weeks. But after connect my Mac to an external monitor for a presentation all was terrible.

At startup without another screen, Windows believe the external monitor was installed yet, and the login screen was settled to that. Then my MBP have a black screen with the cursor only. But I did not know the login screen was in another virtual space in the other part of the world.

Well, try to install W10 again, but wasn't possible.... Your computer do not fit with the requirements etc.....

Then install W8.1. And I am working with FRAMECAD software since then without troubles, except a nasty Chinese virus that put my screen with spam Chinese characters.

Now appear an update to W10 and I do not know what to do.....

    Any suggestions

How much RAM do you have on your MBP Early 2011? I am trying to determine if it is worth even trying to run Windows 8.1, with 4GB !

    Hi,

New to all this but i have a simple question (apologies). Do I need to have had a previous version of Windows to be able to boot camp my mac? I have the Win 10 ISO downloaded but I don't know how to do it or even if I need a previous version installed first.

    Thanks in advance

    Hi !

Did you ever have the "GTP" issues when installing Windows? Did you get this working with Yosemite and/or El Capitan?

    Thanks !

Your 2011 Mac only supports legacy BIOS/MBR installation. EFI installations either fail and/or cause driver issues. If you get the GPT vs MBR error, are you manually using a utility to change the disk partitions/partition table?

Thanks for the reply. Just using the windows installer part Manager. Once I have el Cap installed. I can create a new partition using another utility and then get win 10 installed then?

Just wondering if this was the process you used for a successful Installation

    Thanks!

You will need to use BC Assistant.

I accidentally found this forum topic, because I've found that bootcamp doesn't support my MBP 13 early 2011 (Latest El Capitan) 8GB RAM SSD.

So I tried to download the BC 5.1 windows drivers to prepare for upgrading to windows 10, with the steps below
    1. Open boot Camp assistant, check the version (About BCA) and it was 5.1.x (Can't remember the exact minor version number)
    2. Open BC menu > "Action" > "Download windows support software" and wait until finished downloaded.
    3. Amazingly, I checked the BC version again, it's now 6.0.1 (6024.40.2) !!!! What?!!

    Really happy with it.
Now, in a few days next, I will try upgrade my BC windows 7 to 10.
