Q: Pentax picture format

I am using Photos on 10.10.5 OS. I got a new Pentax-K-S1 digital camera. The photos don't download into Photos. I have to move them to a folder and then import them. The picture format on the camera currently is JPEG but has RAW and RAW+. What is the best format to save the pictures in so that they download into Photos directly?

The RAW format of your camera is supported in Yosemite, see this link: Digital camera RAW formats supported by OS X Yosemite - Apple Support
The RAW support has been installed by Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 6.03.

Perhaps it will help to reinstall this RAW support.
