Q: Itunes randomly stop playing and restarts playing like a pause when playing music.

My itunes the latest version 11.1.3 stop playing music randomly and start playing it again. It almost like its buffering itself.

My hard drive is not full.

Already tried to repair disk etc.

I do not know what to do it all start its skipping when I upgraded to OSX Mavericks.

Anyone have any ideas as to why this is happening?

Itunes, OS X Mavericks (10.9)

Same problem.  iTunes just starts playing whatever is in my library for no reason.

Well, I have a mid 2011 17 Macbook Pro that was doing the exact same thing as everyone is describing as randomly pausing during playback. Upgraded to Yosemite and its even worse now. Just for kicks ... my newer 15" Pro with Retina display does it also and it has an SSD. Apple has been learning from Microsoft how to make garbage ... guess without Steve no one is there to insist they get it right! I'm about done with over priced garbage from Cupertino!

I've got 2 pro's retina 2014. iTunes forces to play not only random music, but today it woke up the laptop to play it! How incredible it is! More observations: One of my laptops is connected to an external bluetooth speaker. As soon as I turn on the speaker, it instantly wakes up the laptop and connects via bluetooth.

If the browser tab with "tune-in radio" is open, but the radio itself is on pause, it usually starts randomly waking up the laptop.

I don't really understand what is the correlation with an ATV so far, but this device keeps switching on all the time as well

I guess there are too many devices under single wi-fi net..

    I had the same problem.

Solved it by terminating the process "iTunesHelper" via 'Activity Monitor' and then removing the same process from the login dock

Link: Use Activity Monitor on your Mac - Apple Support

    Two steps:

    Step One:

    Go to "Finder"

Click "Applications" on the left sidebar

Scroll to "Utilities" and double click

Sort processes by name by clicking the header bar

    Find "iTunesHelper"

    Click to highlight

    Request to terminate/remove

    Click ok

    Step Two:

Make sure you're logged in to the admin account for the computer

    Open "System Preferences" icon menu

    Click "Users and Groups"

Click on the "Login Items" (It's a radio button tab next to the "password" option)

Highlight "iTuneshelper" to select it.  DO NOT CLICK THE CHECKBOX TO HIDE THE PROCESS

Once process is highlighted, select the minus symbol " -- " (it's the one next to the plus "+" symbol, below the checkboxes that you shouldn't click)

On some machines, a pop up box will appear and ask you if you really want to terminate this process.

    Click ok to terminate.

Problem solved.  No more conference calls will be interrupted!

This worked for me, but one important bit of info was left out:

Scroll to "Utilities" and double click

    ->Double-Click "Activity Monitor.app"

Sort processes by name by clicking the header bar

CORRECTION: This DID NOT fix the problem for me. I'm still getting an occasional 5 to 10 second pause in mid-song.

OS X El Capitan 10.11, MacBook Pro (15-inch Early 2011). Music is on an external hard drive, approximately 1 TB of 2 TB used.

Problem seems solved  (more than 4 hours with no pauses).

    1.  Close Spotify, and any other application on the background requesting/requiring internet connection

    2.  Close Safary (for same reason)

    3. Close "itunes helper"  (Settings > Users > (click lock icon) go to login applications tab > select Itunes helper (if active) and any other application requiring internet or network access.  Click the minus sign.  Done

    The pauses disappeared for me.

    Hope it helps
