Q: Have been trying to install Windows using boot camp.  For some reason after it creates the boot camp partition and starts the windows installation process - it will not show the Boot Camp Partition.  Have tried removing all usb devices  please help

Using the boot camp utility to install windows.   It formats my Mac so there is a boot camp partition.   When windows starts to install it does not show the boot camp partition as an option....have even tried to set up my boot camp partition to be 299gb so it would be easily identifiable.  Have called applecare and have spoken to geniuses and have had not luck.  Even reinstalled mac OS X on my computer to start fresh.   Please help.....had windows boot camp on this machine before....windows was updating and lost power.  Had to delete my boot camp partition and have not been able to recreate it since.

    Forgot to add  -using 27inch 56k iMac.   Not sure if the SSD section of the drive is causing the problem.

    Do you have a Fusion drive? Can you boot in Local Recovery (Command+R) and Repair your disk?

    I do have a fusion drive.   How do I know the drive has to be repaired?   It shows up on my desktop as the boot camp drive as normal....just does not show up when installing windows.  Set partition to be 299 gb

    1. Do you have a 3TB Fusion Drive?

    2. Notice the scroll bar on the right hand side. Your BC partitions will be on Disk 1. Please see Macs with Fusion drive: How to find BOOTCAMP partition in Windows installer - Apple Support .

    I do have a 3tb Fusion Drive.  I have tried the scroll bars as well as refreshing the list and it is not showing on the list of available hard drives.  The genius I spoke to at the apple store remembered that she had issues as well when she tried to use boot camp but did not remember the solution.

    From OS X Terminal, please post the output of the following commands.

     

    diskutil list

    diskutil cs list

    sudo gpt -vv -r show /dev/disk0

    sudo fdisk /dev/disk0

    sudo gpt -vv -r show /dev/disk1

    sudo fdisk /dev/disk1

     

    The "sudo" commands will prompt for your password, and it will not be echoed back. You may also see a warning about improper use of "sudo" and potential data loss due to "abuse" of the command.

    1. Are your trying to install W8.1 for the eventual W10 upgrade?

    2. Your current partitioning shows that Bootcamp was tried at some point (hence the disk1 has two separate chinks - 2.2TB and 800Gb). Either the BC partition was removed to reformatted.

    3. W8.1 and your UEFI-Mac support a W8.1 and W10 EFI installation which can address some of these limitations, which are inherent in a legacy BIOS/MBR installation.

    4. Do you have a current OS X Backup?

    Yes - have tried multiple times.   Have iso for windows 10 also.  Every time that I try using the boot camp assistant it does not show the windows partition I set up.  Have tried setting up the windows partition to be something memorable like 360gb but it never shows as one of the available partitions to install windows.   I have a windows 8.1 CD - and Windows 10 ISO.  Have pictures in previous comments showing the hard drive.....very frustrating that it seems to be doing the partition for windows...goes through all the steps ....then when I am installing windows the boot camp partition is not there.   Have a Fusion Drive - 27inch 3TB Drive

    I do have a back up  - but have tried before.  Went to the apple store where they wiped my drive and they did a clean install of the OS.   Boot camp still did not work.

    Can you disconnect all external storage and post the output of

    During Windows installation, all external storage, USB hubs and other peripherals, except the USB installer, Keyboard/Mouse should be disconnected.

    Have tried to do the boot camp process with everything disconnected....even using the bluetooth keyboard and track pad - still had the same problem.  Did what you requested above.   Also attached what it looks like when I am brought to the screen to select the Boot Camp partition (that is created - but does not show up as an option).
