i do not understand why I have to enter credit card information when I am wanting to get a free app.

    Please do not follow the bad advice in the previous comment!

     

    You already have an Apple ID, we know that because you have an account here in the Apple Support Communities. Creating a 2nd Apple ID will open a world of problems for you.

     

    Choose the None option if it is presented to you. Otherwise, you can also redeem a small iTunes Gift Card in your account in place of a credit card.
