I don't see idvd in the "SHARE" options from the "FILE" menu. I'm using OS 10.10.5.

Export the slideshow out of iMovie as a QT movie file via the File âž™ Share âž™ File menu option. .  Select  540p.

Open iDVD, select a theme and drag the exported QT movie file into the open iDVD window being careful to avoid any drop zones.

Follow this workflow to help assure the best quality video DVD:

Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File âž™ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.

To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.

Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

I tried the process below with an .mp4 file. I selected a theme and dragged the mp4 file to the open iDVD window. The file was read by the iDVD software but it did not read the MARKERS that I placed using iMovie. I resorted to using the MARKERS in iDVD that assign markers arbitrarily using equal time intervals (ex. every 5 minutes). How can I export Markers’ metadata from iMovie to iDVD.

    Thanks,

    Ed

but it did not read the MARKERS that I placed using iMovie.

The Markers in iMovie 10 are not Chapter Markers, just visual markers, so these are not seen by iDVD.

In iMovie version 9 ( and 8) there were Chapter Markers and Comment Markers.

Apple did not include Chapter Markers in iMovie 10, nor did it include Share to iDVD.

This is despite the fact that many people appear to still require the ability (even choice) to produce DVDs.

Is there anything being done to rectify the omission of the "markers" and "share to iDVD" functions of the previous versions?  What benefit does apple reap from excluding these necessary functions. Life is too short for this nonsense. It's a waste to use these updated versions to find that these basic necessary functions are missing to compensate for some twisted form of corporate manipulation and tactics that dangle other more expensive products that have these functions readily available.

Which is why I still use iMovie 6. For me, all later versions are useless.

Since Apple discontinued support of iDVD over 2 years ago the benefit of not providing those marker features is that they can slim down the iMovie application and include only those features that are relevant to the direction Apple's is taking at this time.

Bottom line:  it's not gonna happen so we need to find workarounds like iMovie 6 HD.  It's the nature of the beast.

    Thank you for your suggestions.

I have iMovie 10.0.5. I followed Old Toad suggestion to share the finished clip to Theater and in the created new project in iDVD a window opened "put movie here" but, following "here" there was an orange exclamation mark(!). I dragged my movie clip from Theater to that spot: my title followed by several numbers and letters appeared there as well. After about 20 min of computer activity, I tried to run the DVD Play button but only the music of the Theme I could hear - no video. Is it that I need to install Yosemite to make it work? Is the orange a sign of a problem? How can I find what a problem it is?

Just thought I would pass on info that may help anyone struggling with iDVD.  I fought with it last year and was able to coax it into working, but now it seems hopelessly broke.  It seems to work but crashes at various points in the rendering process.  I tried many times and kept track, hoping I would get lucky.  It would crash at random points in the process - some early and some later, so I know it was not a problem with any particular photo or mp4 file.  I'm throwing in the towel on iDVD.  It was a beautiful application when it worked.

Looking at alternatives, Toast Titanium keeps coming up but apparently the quality of this app has gone downhill considerably since the 'old days'.  It's getting hammered in reviews. There are some really shady applications on the app store - they have OK reviews but if you take the time to ready thru them it's clear that many "reviews" are bogus.  The 'real' ones generally say something along the lines of "this app is a dumpster fire"

I took a lot of video and I'm on the hook to provide a DVD for our non-profit event as a handout, and I'm in trouble...   People still want DVDs!

I don't know what you mean by saving to Theater.  My recommendation was to export the project at 540p to the Desktop and add it from there into the iDVD menu window.

Thanks OldToad. Theater was suggested by "jensadelle". As you suggested, I also saved my movie to desktop and dragged it to the open DVD project (in it I clicked on the + sign, that prompt me to the open window on iDVD project) that spelled: "place your movie here". I did that but following my title that appeared there, there was an orange ! Sign. The movie did not play on IDVD....

Does the movie play with Quicktime player?  What format is the movie as shown in the Quicktime Player Inspector window:

Yes, it plays on QP. The format is as follows: H.264, 1280 x 720 AAC, 48000 HZ, Stereo (LR). My Mac has only 5%GB free left. Is this the problem?

To create more space can I remove a movie from iPhoto and put it on an External Disc (I would do it by dragging to the External Disc and then deleting from iPhoto?

    Thanks
